Renting RCI Points - Is this Allowable?

Hi,
Rather than losing some of our DVC points we transferred them to RCI where they are now good until Dec. 2014. We're now finding this may not have been as good of an option as we first thought and am wondering if we can rent out our points. If so, would the reservation need to be in our name or could it be in the person who will be staying? Likewise, will we end up with any liability (damage to unit or other charges) or do they request a credit card of the person who is staying? Bottom line is that we are considering options where we can get $ out of the transferred RCI points rather than having to use them just for the sake of using them.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, an RCI reservation cannot be rented to someone else. You can make one and give it to friends or family, however. For example, I sent my brother and his wife to Big Bear Lake for a week as a wedding gift. You will need to buy a Guest Certificate for them, and have the reservation be in their name.

I know there have been several instances where it was reported that DVC suggested it could be done, but as Brian mentioned, it's against RCI's policy and they are aggressive with that policy. What RCI will allow, though it's beyond the scope of their legal paperwork, is to have someone else pay the exchange and guest certificate fee. My suggestion to you is to consider renting your current or future DVC points and try to use the RCI points in lieu of a DVC stay, assuming price and time is an issue. How many DVC points did you deposit with RCI.

You do have some time. I'd suggest you start the planning process now for a possible future exchange. Maybe a beach vacation, the Smokies, the Caribbean or MX. There are many options. Do realize that for any exchange less than 7 days, you'll likely have an additional housekeeping fee. Maybe you could get something much closer or even some weekend options.

What Dean means by "aggressive" is that either RCI or the resort where the exchange is booked can (and will) CANCEL the reservation if they learn that it has been rented.

I'm not sure, but I think the points and exchange fees would probably be forfeited for violating the exchange policies.
