How would it work if I (non-DVC member) want to rent points to stay at say one of the DVC villas for a week at WDW? Would I just pay the DVC member and they would give me the reservation? Or is there more? :confused3

You don't really rent points because points are useless to you as a non-Member. You rent a reservation that the member makes for you using their points. They fully control the reservation until the moment you check in. You cannot contact Member Services for any reason. The member must do it all. You can't add Magical Express or the Dining Plan - the member has to do it. You can't make a room request, the member must do it for you.

The member also controls the payment plan. They tell you when and how they want payment. If you don't like their plan, you find a new member to rent from.

The member may also not allow any cancellations or changes. If you cancel, you have still paid for the reservation without any refund. It's all up to the member.

The most important thing is to find a member who you feel comfortable with. And to understand that making a DVC reservation is not a last minute thing. Plus occupancy is very strict with DVC.

Good luck with your vacation.

Check the FAQ "stickies" over on the Rent/Trade Board for more info.

Renting requires a considerable amount of research, and the ability to stick to reservation dates made long in advance. The most important factors, IMHO, are both parties fully understanding the transaction, and both parties having a good level of comfort with each other. Because of the work involved and the potential difficulties with cancellations, it is not for everyone.

However, if you are comfortable with the rental process, you can save a considerable amount of money on a trip to WDW.
