Renting points

I'm sure most DVC owners who rent their points out would prefer to rent for longer stays, but do you think there are any who are ok with renting for one-night stays? I am fairly local but sometimes I like to spend the night after a park day, or drive up and spend the night the day before, so I only want one night at a time. I would want to book 3 separate one-night stays right now. Is this something a DVC owner might be ok with or should I just use David's? I know they rent small amounts of points because I've done one-night rentals with them, but they're more expensive.

I want to buy DVC in the next 6 months to a year, and I want to check out every DVC resort first so I'm making the rounds.

I think that most DVC owners would prefer not to do last-minute rentals. I know that if I did, I would expect full payment with absolutely no refunds even before I booked it. The reason for this is because if I book first and wait for payment afterwards, my points would go into holding status if the renter changed their mind with less than 31 days until arrival. With a broker, the owner had a guarantee that they would be paid once they secured the reservation.

I would definitely expect to pay in full upfront, and would not expect to be able to change my date if it didn't work out for me. I can afford to take the chance since it's just the cost of one night. I just thought it might be too much work to be worth it plus I think that based on what I've read on these boards that there is a limit to how many times an owner can rent so they'd probably rather not waste them.

This may be a prime time to do short stays . There are a lot of DVC owners with returned points from the covid cancellations with points expiring 11/30/20 who would like to get what they can for them.

Maybe; I didn't think of that. I guess I'll at least ask a few people over on the rental board. I didn't want to bother anyone if they wouldn't be interested but I guess it can't hurt. They can always say no thanks!

The number of rentals that you can make in a year without being considered a commercial renter is pretty high. It wouldn't be a deterrent to most owners.

There are a lot of owners with distressed points (expiring soon) who might be willing to book for you rather than letting the points go to waste. Someone with an August or September use year may be more open to renting last-minute, distressed points right now than someone with a February or March UY who has a good deal of life left to their points.
