My friend wanted to know if it's cheaper to rent pts to stay at VWL. I had been wondering the same thing when I saw posts from people wanting to rent. I kept thinking why not just book a trip like normal? Is it generally cheaper to rent points? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

It is generally cheaper. You can rent points for $10-$12 per point. If you are only staying Sunday thru Thursday, it can be very inexpensive. If you put in a Friday and Saturday (rooms cost more points on Fri and Sat) it is still reasonable.

You won't find a code for as little as you would spend for a weeknight stay at the VWL through renting points.

Generally, points rent for about $10 each. In the summer a studio at VB rents for 12 pts, which means that your cost is $120 per night. Can you get a room that cheap by paying cash? Usually not, which is why so many people want to rent points. WLV usually rent for about 15 pts per night in the summer, it varies by season. At the premium season of Christmas and Easter, it may be more expensive, and it is ALWAYS more expensive on Friday-Saturday nights, when even members pay cash, or stay elsewhere. At least I do. I can stay Sun-Thurs for almost the same cost as Fri-Sat nights, and my points go alot farther that way. :earseek:

Okay...here's a good example for you;)

To stay in a studio at the VWL for 1 full week Sat.-Sat. in Sept. (used Sept. since it's lowest point season) I hit in 9/10/05 - 9/17/05 on the online sight at disney.com

Disney's price to rent directly is $2,216.62 which breaks down to $316.66per night.

To rent points from a member for that same exact stay in the same exact room would cost you $1,040.00 if you were to rent at $10 per point which breaks down to $148.57 per night ($148.57 X 7 = $1,039.99). And you do not pay tax.

CRO$2,216.62 - points rental $1,040.00 = $1,176.62 Saved!

But, if it is important to you to have daily housekeeping including having clean sheets, your bed made, clean towels daily, etc, then you would not be happy with renting points. You only get a full cleaning if you stay at least 8 days and that will happen on day 4. If you stay less than 8 days, you will not get a full cleaning and will only get the trash removed and towels replaced on day 4.

If you would like to be able to change your mind, to move your vacation around, to change your location, etc, renting points might not work for you. You are dealing with an individual and they set the rules. If you don't like their rules, you don't need to play. If an emergency comes up and you need to cancel or change the reservation, you may or may not be able to and could lose your entire deposit. Disney will not intervene in these situations.

Just a few of the possible downsides to renting points. It takes a lot of trust between the two parties. Both parties could be winners or losers in the deal.

the saving range from 40-60% from cash rates..........and if you need a 2 BR or GV the savings are huge from a cash ressie
