Renting points vs free dining??

We rented points 11 months out for an AKL studio for our upcoming trip (through David's). We knew we'd probably be passing up free dining, but I don't care. It is still way cheaper than staying at AKL out of pocket and we don't eat that much food to ever need the dining plan (we could never afford AKL otherwise). The first part of our stay will be at LM AoA...so we are also passing up free dining for that! We could stay at POP and get free food, but we really want to swim in the AoA pool and stay there, so we are sucking it up. I hope it is all worth it!

Considering GFV is a brand new property free dining may not even be offered there. It seems even some of the existing resorts seem to get left out of the promos so I wouldn't bank on GFV for it.

If I didn't rent points for GF villas, I would book a standard room at GF....so free dining should be offered there.

Also, from the sounds of it, since the GFvillas are new, it is not sounding like I would likely find points to rent there. I think I am going to book a regular room at the GF in January through Disney, then in February (when my 7 month window opens up for renting dvc) see if there is any availability to rent points at GF villas. Thoughts on this plan??

I don't think this will work. I'm not sure what this 7mth window to rent points is that you are talking about but the place is booked solid as far as out I can see. If you want to stay there you need to find an owner to rent points from and look for dates well into the new year (since other DVC members are restricted to 4mths out right now).

Well he's just a broker and you'd be paying more for the points for a lesser selection. Why are you using a broker instead of simply scrolling down to the rental board here on the DIS?

Not necessarily! I'm not sure what the current deal is for GFV, but often DVC will throw in incentive points to get you to buy. Often people will try to rent those if they do not think they will be able to use them. Why not see if you can find a GFV owner that can do an early booking for you.

Also, I agree with delmar411. Why pay extra to a broker? Just look for someone that seems trustworthy right here on the DIS.

If you really want the 1 bedroom why not just put in a request with David's and see if they can secure it at the 11 month window? If they don't happen to have the points then (extremely likely) they will keep trying. We rent points vs free dining as a rule of thumb - I don't like waiting until the last minute especially since they release the deals so late that airfare has gone up - but are just two adults who go with a standard room.
