Hello everyone.

I apologize if this has been asked before. I am considering renting DVC points for a visit in October 2015 or thereabouts and have read a lot about renting points but haven't found an answer to this question.

When I check points calculators and such it gives me the price that the appropriate number of points will cost but is there hotel tax or sales tax or anything added on to that total or is that the final cost?

TIA

No. And, you are not really renting points--they have no value--but rather renting a reservation from an owner who books the reservation for you using their points.

The transaction is a private one between you and the owner, not Disney...the price they charge you is all the price you will pay if you are booking a DVC resort.

There are no hotel or sales taxes added to the price of the room when using points.

Awesome. Thank you for the quick replys. I'm trying to work up a budget for the trip and didn't want to be surprised by 15% hotel tax or something being added.

We aren't doing Aulani so no worries there.

We are hoping for AKL. Speaking of which, I understand that the value DVC villas are hard to get there. Would I have a better chance of snagging one by going through a private owner or a broker?

You need to book a value villa exactly at eleven months out. And the brokers just match you up with an owner who wants to rent their points.

Typically as noted above the price quoted for the room is what you pay and no tax is charged. However, be aware that legally anyone who rents a timeshare in Florida is in fact supposed to charge, collect, and turn over to applicable state and local government authorities, the usual sales taxes applicable to room rentals that Disney collects and pays when it rents rooms. It is just a fact that most who rent their timeshare fail to do that.

But to be very clear, that responsibility falls on the owner of the points, not the person who rents the reservation from the owner.

If the owner is going to charge anything additional to cover the tax, that should be disclosed up front in the contract.
