On our last 2 trips (October and December), the CMs checking us out saw the 'DVC member' on our card and then asked us to show our blue DVC member card before giving us a discount. The card will say DVC member on it. However perks are for actual members and most places require that you show your actual DVC blue member card.
The friend can try but please warn him/her the resort card might not be enough and I would never push the issue since she/he is not a member.
Probably the best "perk" they WILL be eligible for is the ability to purchase the Disney Dining Plan without having to also purchase park tickets. That's a nice one, and they are specifically permitted to enjoy that one because they are staying at a DVC resort on DVC points.
