Renting points question

Well, I have decided to look into the renting DVC points idea. I just can't stand paying what I am for POP (although I'm excited about going now)...but as i look at the potential for staying at Beach Club or Boardwalk for just a bit more...well I just have to look into it. I have no idea how difficult it is to get a reservation when you want it...but I'll try.

One question I have is about taxes and fees. Right now I need 33-39 points to stay at either BCV, WL, Boardwalk, OKW all studios. At the average sale of 10 dollars per point that'll cost me 330 to 390 dollars total. This is the base price before taxes and fees. What should I figure those costs will be?

Right now POP is costing me ~297 with all fees and taxes included. Imagine my surprise to realize that I could have Beach Club for less than 100 more.....then I remembered the taxes and fees. Dang...they'll get you every time

Also...if the Old Key West Studio was the only thing available.. do you think I should switch from Pop to there? I'll have my 8 year old son with me....amenities are nice...but I wonder if it'll be a "Disneyish" as the Pop?

Switching to Beach Club gives us access to Stormalong Bay and walk to Epcot...boat to MGM...etc. Boardwalk doesn't get us Stormalong Bay...but I LOVE it there and we still have the Epcot resort area. Wilderness Lodge just seems like a completely lovely place to stay....but when I get to thinking about OKW; I just don't see it for me and my son. Do you agree?

There are no taxes when you rent from a DVC Member the only fee is if you want Mousekeeping everyday, (DVC members recieve Mousekeeping every fourth day) there is an addition charge for that...Ask the Member you rent from they will be able to give you the information.

I have stayed at OKW with young children, they loved watching the golfers everyday...but it doesn't have the Pop that Pop Century has.

I'm not an expert on renting points, but there are a whole bunch of people who are over on the DVC discussion board. I do know that there are no taxes or fees when you rent points...you pay just the amount you and the person you are renting from agree on. I would check out the DVC discussion board right here at the Dis and see what the experts over there can tell you!

I was wondering the same thing and posted over on their board regarding renting in Feb 2005. one guy told me he would do it for $12 a point. It was going to be way more expensive for us to do that than wait to see what fla resident rates come out- I wanted the beach club so the kids could be by the pool.

if your taking your ds go the extra points and stay at bcv you wont regret it, your ds will love the sab. but if your planning a vacation soon you really need a member to check your dates, the summer books up fast. good luck. no extra fees involved in renting points just $$ per point.
