Forgive me if this has been addressed before, or if this is not the right place...

I have owned at OKW since 94. My brother and his family are interested in coming with us next summer. He would love to rent points in order to stay at OKW/VB with us. However, he is apprehensive about trusting his money and vacation to a stranger.

I was reading the Vacation Planner this week and I see where you can transfer your points to another DVC member.

Is it possible for him to rent points from Member X, pay MX and have MX transfer the points to me so that I can make brother's reservations knowing that A. he has the points and B. that the reservation is made and we can access it?

Has anyone done this before??

Thanks

I have not done it but it should be quite feasible. I might suggest that, instead of potentially confusing the heck out of MX, you have brother give you the money and *you* post on the transfer/rent board looking for points to be transferred to you. In other words, you don't need to scare any potential MX's off by adding the brother into the mix; just ask for whatever number of points you think you need for brother's reservation and have MX deal directly with you.

Yes, that is possible. That would give him more comfort, and it's also easier for the owner he gets the points from. It's a simple, virtually risk-free transaction for both parties.

Keep in mind that he would have to get all of the points he needs from the same owner, because you can only have one transfer (in OR out) in a year. In other words, he could not rent from more than one person, because the second transfer into your account would not be allowed.

There are a lot of nuances to transfers, and they're irreversible transactions, so be sure you both research it thoroughly.

Transferred points maintain their UY and resort. With two different resort stays, you will have to book one of that at 7 months since you won't be able to transfer points for VB AND OKW from a single member. You would only be able to transfer either VB or OKW points. Unless you have a VB master contract and an OKW master contract.

All of our points are at OKW. What I have always done for our vacations is to make a 2 week reservation at OKW at 11 months out, then at 7 months call and switch the second week to VB. So far I have not had any problems ( fingers crossed )

Would this still be possible for me to do for brother with the transferred points or are there more restrictions?

Thanks for the responses!:thumbsup2

Yep, as long as there was still vacancy at 7 months for VB.
