Renting points out--Questions

I'm extremely curious about just how one goes about renting points out to complete strangers. Of course, I know about the rent/trade board here, but what happens after you post your available points and price and someone shows interest?

Contracts? Where I can get a sample?

Trust factor? How will each party know that the other one is trustworthy?

Success? Does it really work and what is the probability of my points actually being rented for the going price of $10 these days? Is there a more realistic price range?

Frequency? How often do you that rent your points out do so?

Purpose? What reason do you generally rent points out, no need for points or simple profit?

I believe that from time to time we will indeed have extra points at BCV and would love to rent them to cover some of the dues costs. However, I just don't know much about how it really works!!

I just rented for the first time. I had OKW booked for 12/28-1/02/04 and got a great rate at Swan CL so I decided to try it for the location at New Year's. We listed @$10 and folks e-mailed us. We would have preferred keeping the same dates, but after a couple of "just inquiring", we had 2 folks who were ready to go so we picked the first one who responded. We changed the reservation for them until November and after this was confirmed (with there names also on the confirmation) the renters agreed they wanted to pay the full amount. We received the check(bank check)in 2 days and sent them their confirmation the same day. No problems and it helped that they were dvc members who knew the system and did not want to borrow from there own points for next year. We could also have transferred the points directly to their account, but some of my points were borrowed and you can't transfer borrowed points. This was all completed in 1 week's time with no problem. I didn't ask for any references, but that also is because they wee dvc members, we had their address, etc. I really have not heard of a horror story. The usual scenario is half of payment at receipt of confirmation and half 30-60 days before(for your safety if they cancel;its what I have seen most often. I would definitely do it again, if the need arose.
