Hi! I have a point rental request going on the Rent/Trade Board, but thought maybe I should check with you guys. Am I crazy to think I'll be able to get points for a studio the last week of November 07? Would the middle of December be better?

Or am I asking too early/late? Maybe I should ask again at the 7-month window? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...TIA! :)

November and December are VERY popular and sometimes pretty hard to get unless you are very flexible. Because you are 10-11 months out you can only rent from people at their home resort. While that narrows the field, if you waited until 7 months, it's very likely that rooms would not be available. Again, the longer you wait, the less likely you are to get a reservation at that time of year.

November is very busy because of the Food and Wine festival. Early to mid December might be better odds.

Food & Wine Festival is over before Thanksgiving week. Week after Thanksgiving might be possible, but you need to get your reservation soon. DVC members have their annual meetings during the first week of Dec.

If no one is responding to your message, you might up your offer on the per point cost. That usually gets a response.

Lurkyloo - I have never rented points before and know zilch about it. However after booking my two vacations this year I do have BCV and OKW points that I am not going to use and was going to bank. If no one is helping you on the rent board I might be able to...but like I said I do not know anything about renting.

Folks -Could you give me and Lurkyloo some help on this. What is the standard protocol for renting? Do you all use contracts? And how is payment handled.

If you haven't done it already you should read the instructions at the top of the rent/trade board and then you might do a search for rental contracts on the operations thread as well as just renting points. The basis is that a DVC member makes a reservation for another person depending on what terms they agree on. There is no connection with Disney. It is strictly between the two parties involved. Each renter has their own way to do it. Some require a deposit before making the reservation, some immediately after with payment in full due at varying times depending on what you set up. The person renting has no ability to confirm the reservation with member services or to make any changes except through the member. When I have rented I have asked for a deposit once the reservation is made, the balance of payment when I send the written confirmation from Disney to the person renting. I also state that it is non refundable but that I will work with the person if they need to change dates or if they need to cancel and can find someone to take the reservation I will make the changes with member services. Some people allow structured payments with final payment due at a given date. There are as many ways to do this as there are people to agree to what they will do and what they expect. It is a matter of trust on both parts and while most transactions go smoothly there are a few that haven't so be certain that both parties understand exactly what is involved.

Right now, only people with BCV points can help you. At the 7-month window there will be a lot more points available to help you out. But all rooms might be booked by then.

Hopefully, the poster above can help you. If not, just keep asking and hope for the best. Be sure to have private massaging turned on, as many owners who rent like to contact people via PM's.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Jemiaule, I sent you a PM.... :)

iI just put in a request for a standard view BWV studio from Nov 25,26,27 or 28th for two nights and only one night was available so I am on the waitlist. My guess is that they are already gone during the time frame you want.

One thing to try - if you really want BCVs is to offer a premium. Someone is much more likely to rent you those points if you offer $12 or $13 now.

If you wait until 7 months, you'll have more owners, but the rooms will likely be booked.
