Someone has listed points for rent on Ebay with a link to DVC's website and has the username and password listed!!!

What are people thinking?

I sent them a note too! As well as contact Ebay! They are new at this as you can see this is their first listing on Ebay. Nevertheless, they know how to list the username and password in RED letters!

There are a lot of people out there who know the username and password to the site-I'm not saying that makes it right but it doesn't seem like they can access too much-it might even encourage them to buy into DVC.

I know there are some who get paperwork to buy and then cancel for one reason or another-they all have the username and password-so do all the people who sell their contracts.

Is there actual policy against giving out the username and password? I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just curious to know if there is actually something, somewhere that states DVC members can't do that.

This is what DVC members only website has listed at the logon screen:

Please enter your user name and password for access to our Members Only site. If you do not have this information, please contact Disney Vacation Club Member Services.

If Disney were serious about the username and password they wouldn't have one for 60,000 contracts. You can just look at these forums to see how easy it would be for them to institute something that is one per member (saying this from the perspective of using this same software for a different club & as a programmer).

I think its more a marketing ploy than anything else. They could have just released the website name to only DVC members and had it be just as safe as it is now (which is to say...not at all safe). Believe me Disney has adequate security on the items they really want to protect and this isn't one of them.

And by making a big deal out of the ebay listing and placing the link here in this thread, you've suppied the ID and Password to everyone who visits here to learn about DVC...

Not that I see this as a problem, but I just wanted to point that out... ;-)

I simply wrote there was a listing on Ebay, but did not mention any other details, such as the link to the Ebay listing...:D

I'm glad you communicated this information on our discussion forum. It gives us the opportunity to write the offending e-bay advertiser and express our concern. There is a big difference in my mind of posting here about a problem which is a vast majority of DVC members, or posting confidential information for DVC members only on a much larger public forum such as e-bay.

I reported the auction to ebay as well as member services.

I agree that the passwording should be a little more complex.

This post has been edited to remove the direct link to Ebay which provides the member name and password for the DVC Website. It is against DIS Guidelines to have this information available through our discussion boards.

Thank you all for your compliance.

While there is currently not that much "secret" info on the Member Site, there is also no reason for anyone to post a link. It has nothing to do with renting points and the general www.disneyvacationclub.com site will provide all the info necessary to someone to make a decision. I think reporting it to DVC and E-Bay was the right thing to do.

To be honest with you I really don't see a problem really what are they getting not to much in my opinion. We had the username and password 2 years before we purchased our membership and being able to access the site was a big help in our decision. So let them have it it just may help them find the same happy place we all have. Afterall isn't that what Disney is all about

If Disney thought that, they wouldn't have password protected a portion of the DVC website. Not that it's all that secure anyway...

My view is that Disney is trying to give us the impression that we have something no one else has with the site but honestly we allready have something that the regular guests don't we have pool hopping thay don't so forget the website I prefer the pools

I tend to agree with DSNY FN that this is much ado about next to nothing. The members only site doesn't have anything worth securing. If it did, we'd each have our own ID and password. The worst that could happen would be that the site would get even slower if more people signed in.

to say he/she removed the username/password for the listing.

They claim they broke no rules and to check with Member Services. I'm not sure which Member Services they are referring to, Ebay or DVC.

:D

I did get an email from Jackie at DVC thanking me for emailing DVC about the username and password.
