To give a renter a level of assurance, can "renter" validate DVC member deed ownership at Florida ComPtrollers Office Website?

What other level of assurance can be offfered to a potential "renter" of points?

I assume if they call Membership Services they will not speak with anyone about DVC Members??????????????Correct?

Much thanks as always!:goodvibes :goodvibes

They won't even talk to an owner if they've rented pints from another member. The member that owns the points is the person that must contact Member Services.

You can verify ownership on the Orange County comtroller site, however, if the DVC resort owned is Vero Beach of Hilton Head, they will not show up there, as thos eproperties are not in Orange County.

Also, if you were to look for me - my husband is listed and you won't find me. We have different last names and for some reason, he searches up, I don't.

But if you look for Robert Anderson, you'll find several of them.

So the comptroller is evidence of ownership - not proof of ownership or non-ownership.

Besides, being an owner doesn't necessarily mean your reservation can't be changed. ANY owner can cancel an reservation, but a renter can't. If you don't trust, don't rent. You have to have some level of confidence in the person you are renting from. If they are willing to give you personal information like address and phone etc, I'd feel pretty good about them. Taking your money and running certainly wouldn't be good for THEIR business if they ever wanted to rent again either.

I was a nervous wreck the first time I rented points from an owner. But now as an owner, I can tell you I get nervous when I rent to others! No matter how you look at it, there is a certain level of trust that must be there between renter and owner. If it's not, find another owner to rent from. Other things that have helped me feel good about transactions in the past:

1.) A contract, of course, that is well written, thought out, and accurate.
2.) Dealing with someone who is organized and up front with information.
3.) A phone call can sometimes be helpful.

I have been fortunate as both a renter and an owner to have dealt with great people. Part of it is because I do my homework, and I try to be as helpful as I can be to the other party.

Best of luck to everyone who is renting right now. May all your deals be good ones. :-)

A person out to cheat you can easily look of the website and pick a name to pretend to be.

just my opinion: I would only consider renting from someone I personally knew. Sending thousands of dollars to a stranger in exchange for the promise of a future reservation is unacceptable to me. I would much rather spend a few more bucks and rent from Disney directly. Even better, if I liked DVC locations that much, I'd consider putting that money down on my own contract! ;)

Jeez! Sometimes the anti-renting sentiment around here gets downright stifling!

Is renting 100% safe? NO! Is there a way to make it 100% safe? NO! Is anything in life 100% safe? NO! While I do not believe this for one minute, our world as we know it could end tomorrow and your CRO reservation with it!

If you are uncomfortable renting, don't! But, there have been thousands (millions?) of successful rentals of DVC points, and to irrationally scare people that everyone is out to scam them is simply unjustified. It is fear mongering at its highest level, and I am simply tired of it.

Someone much wiser than me once said (to paraphrase), "If we do not trust our children, the will learn not to trust." We have become a nation that does not trust anything or anyone, and it is sad. I think a certain amount of caution is necessary, but once in awhile you just have to trust that the sun will rise tomorrow and that there are some good people left in this world.

If anyone is worried about renting then they shouldn't.

Life is too short, why add additional stress unless you enjoy that sort of thing. :scared1:
