I have a question regarding renting points and getting the dining plan during our stay. It is my understanding that I tell the person whom I am renting points from that I want the DP added to. When the renter makes the reservation, how does it work from that point. Does the renter receive an invoice from Disney for the price of the DP, or do I have to make arrangements to pay Disney directly? This part is confusing to me, as I have never rented points before.

You will be expected to pay for the dining plan when you check in. You cannot prepay it. It will also not appear on your reservation as far as I know. The person you rent from should be able to get the total amount it will cost from member services or you may be able to find out yourself from Disney dining.

I've been wondering about this as well.

Is the dining plan for renters (or DVC members) the same as for someone that gets a package through Disney?

If I can make a trip happen it'll either be in a Value resort with the Deluxe Dining Plan or I'll rent points for the Wilderness Lodge and I'd like to get the Deluxe DIning Plan there as well.

I don't know that renting will be possible though, by the time I can finalize things (both in planing and financing) it'll probably be impossible to get reservations at the WL for when I want to go.

Yes, the dining plans are the same ones. The big difference is that when you add it to a DVC reservation, you have to pay for it at check in. You can not prepay it in advance.

If Disney happens to offer free dining for the time period you are planning to go, can that be applied to a DVC reservation or is free dining only applicable to non DVC resorts. Hope that makes sense but we are in the beginning stages of planning for summer 2010 and we want to try and rent points, which we have never done. and we will definitely want the dining plan but not sure how free dining may apply if the Disney offers if for late spring/summer 2010:confused3...Just trying to be prepared.

Thanks:worship:

Free dining is an offer from the Walt Disney Travel Company (or whatever they're calling it nowadays), requiring you to purchase a vacation package including a full-priced room and tickets.

When you rent from a DVC member, it's like renting your coworker's beach house at the shore. You're not dealing with Disney at all, just a private individual, so none of the discounts, deals or packages that WDTC offers will be available to you.

If you wish to purchase the dining plan, the member can have that added to your reservation for you. You'd be asked to pay for it at check-in.

Plus, with DVC, you do not have to purchase park tickets in order to get the dining plan.

That's good to know, there's places out there where you can save a little on Park Hoppers. Plus there's a possibility that at least onoe of my party won't want to actually go to the parks. Not sure yet, so that would save on buying tickets there.

good info
Actually, very BAD info.

This thread is from almost a year ago, and the rules have recently changed. DDP must now be paid for at the time it is added to the reservation (which is going to be difficult to manage with a rented reservation), and there are a number of other changes.

Better to repost any questions over on the Disney Dining Plan board in the restaurant section of the DIS to get accurate, up to date information. The info in this thread was accurate a year ago, but much of it is flat WRONG now.

good info

Old info.....

As of now, if you add the DDP, you are expected to pay for it at the time it is added (must still be at least 48 hours in advance of check-in date).

Good luck finding a DVC Member that wants to handle your credit card in order to make this happen.

Not only must it be paid for when added, but the renter can't pay for it, because Member Services will deal only with the member. Unless they'll take a conference call with both the renter and the member, the renter and member will have to work out a way to pay for the plan. Either the renter will have to provide the member with their credit card information, or they need to have a method of reimbursement if the member pays for the plan, and an agreement that the member will cancel the plan if the renter doesn't reimburse.
