Renting Points AND paying cash?

If we rent points for a Sunday through Thursday stay in January, and make a cash reservation for the Friday stay do we actually have to move out of the room and check back in for the last night?

You would have to go to the front desk and get new keys but chances are you would not have to move out. I would mention it when you make the resevation and also when you are checking in.

Actually, you may not even have to go back to the front desk if you are doing points and cash. I went to BWV in July, and stayed Sun-Th on points, then paid cash for Fri-Sat. I told them when I checked in, and on Friday morning they slipped more keys under the door, and a bill, and I was set for another two days. They even transferred the balance of our bill to Am Ex, and set us up a new account with a $0 balance(except for the cost of the room). Plus, I got a full cleaning on both Friday and Saturday, which was just right! The cash ressie was NOT made thru MS, it was made thru the regular ressie number, that's why I got the cleanings.

But the answer I think you're looking for is that you MIGHT have to move and there's no way to guarantee otherwise. If you do the advance planning noted above, your chances of moving would decrease. My guess would be you have about a 25% chance of having to move but that is purely a guess.

I would think your chances of moving might be a lot lower than 25%, but as Dean noted, it's not guaranteed. However, as the front desk told me, they don't purposely want to make guests mad at them, it happens often enough by accident!! That's why they go out of their way to make sure that you are accommodated. Besides, if they leave you where you are, the maid service is happy because they can clean your room last! Otherwise, the room would have to be cleaned by 4:00. I always do the points+cash thing, and I have never been moved, ever, after about 20 trips down, so I am either very lucky, or the moving thing has been blown out of proportion.

Thanks for the input, I think we'll take our chances with a cash rental on the Friday night. We will be pretty bent out of shape if we have to move, but I suppose that's the chance we take. I'm hoping we will benefit from the slow time of year.

If you book your cash night through MS, you can request the points and cash nights be linked. That way it is considered one reservation and you will not have to move. Be sure to check on the availability of a 25% member discount.
