Renting points and getting wait listed? (AKV)

In the process of renting points through David's for a studio at AKV in late October. The DVC inventory availability is there, but they don't have owners with enough points to accommodate me right now. They advised they'd put me in the wait list queue for when they get enough points, but warned there's several people ahead of me for AKV.

For those who have been in a similar situation, how did you fair after being wait listed? How long before you heard something? Did you end up having to change resorts or room types? I know every experience will be different, just looking to read some experiences since this is my first time renting.

Next month will be the 7 month mark so I presume they'll be able to accommodate us then since they can use anyone's points, but what's the likelihood of a standard or savannah studio still being available in Jambo House at that time?

We faired very well when we were in a similar situation as you. We contacted David's around December 20, 2012, trying to rent 84 points for a 4-night stay at Villas at Grand Californian in October 2013. Since David's didn't have any VGF points at the time, we had to go on a waitlist. About two weeks later David's emailed us and said he had the points available to book our reservation. Overall, the process worked well and we would gladly use David's if we needed to rent points in the future.

By the way, one thing that worked in our favor is that we needed only 84 points. There were others already on David's VGC waitlist when our name was added, but they needed a lot more points than us. So when David's found a VGC owner that had a relatively small number of points to rent, they were offered to us first.

Although October is the start of the busy season for DVC bookings, I am optimistic that you'll find a studio available at AKV at the 7-month mark.

Good luck!

I booked through David's last month for BLT in October. I quickly received an email from them saying inventory was there but no owners with enough points to cover my time frame. I was bummed but decided to be wait listed. Within a few hours I received another email from them saying they just had an owner contact them with the points needed for my stay and just like that, I had a confirmation number and was booked for our fall trip. I would hold on the wait list as long as you possibly can and hopefully something will come through for you soon. My experience with David's was top notch and I wouldn't hesitate using them again in the future.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just find an owner and rent from them. Would probably save you some money and guarantee you get what you want. We have rented from private owners at least 10 times and have never had a problem.

If only it were that easy! I'm under the impression I'm not a popular candidate because I only need 36 points. I scoured the Rental board on here but found nothing matching what I need. I also posted on another popular rental forum, and no replies. I also reached out to a David's competitor, but they are currently charging $2 more per point since I'm before the 7 month mark. Would love any suggestions on how else to go about this. This is my first time renting.
