I tried searching, but didn't find anything after 10 minutes or so. I figured I'd ask then...

How easy/difficult is it to rent out your DVC points (reservations)? We are going to buy in to this, but I don't anticipate using it every year. I'd like to get an idea of what I'm in for if I try to do the "landlord" thing :sunny:

Anyone who engages in this practice, please let me know your thoughts and any "tips" you might have!!!

Monitor the rent/trade board......you'll see that there arefor points for rent and renters looking. Its a fairly easy process as long as your renter knows what they want and treat you fairly. Please understand that you own the points...so even if you rent to some one, you still have control over those points and that reservation. Get deposits and payments well in advance of the departure. Communication is the key to this......so to sum it up, I think its very easy as long as the renter cooperates with your terms.

Renting your points is an easy thing to do, just remember that many of the people who rent your points are new to this, so they will not treat you well. That means that they will ask you to check on these dates, and after you email them, you will never hear from them again. I found out that you never do anything until they say they want to rent points from you for X amount of $$. Members never ask you to check dates, they ask about points and $, and they don't usually contact you unless they are serious, so you might want to rent to members first. Also, require payment in advance, say 1/2 prior to a point transfer, 1/2 immediately when transaction was complete(and ONLY do this if a member has many posts on this board.) I would not transfer points to someone who is new here, because once you transfer points, it's done, and you have no recourse if that member "stiffs" you. You can meet many nice, nice people thru your renting your points, though, so don't assume by what I said above that most people are untrustworthy, because that isn't true. MOST people are wonderful, there are just a couple of "clinkers" in every group. :thumbsup2

There are a few posts about problems with renters. You might want to read about those before you buy too many points. If you will only go every other year, buy enough points for those every two year trips. Bank one year or borrow to get two years worth of points.

I have no interest in renting my points let.
