Renting out points question

My wife and I are in the process of buying a contract at SSR and I'm tyring to determine what's the best number of points for us. I have 2 grown daugthers, 4 grand children. A studio would work for my wife and I, a 2 bedroom for us and 1 of my daughter's family, and maybe a 2 bedroom plus a studio for all of us. I've run several scenarios on points usage, and they vary from 50 to 100 or more points in a given year. So I'm thinking of buying a number of points at the upper range to cover the maximum scenario. I think that if I do this I will occassionally have excess points that I would like to rent out. (I understand banking and borrowing.) My question is how difficult is it to rent out points; i.e., find a renter? Any opinions or advice on how long it takes to find a suitable renter? Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems that posting your extra points here for rent would be an easy (and free) way to get rid of them quickly. They will be easy to rent since the pts can used at any DVC resort during any time of the year. I found pts we needed to rent here quickly! Good luck and welcome! :sunny:

The only thing I would suggest is to consider doing the initial 150 point purchase and then adding on a smaller amount...if you ever need/want to sell your contract, I see the ones over 150 points on the resale boards for a long time compared to small contracts. Just my two cents.

I agree with the prev. poster about buying two contracts. That way if you ever decide you don't need that many points you can just sell off the smaller of the two. Disney won't let you split up a contract (at least that is what I have heard), and having two contracts is not hard to manage at all - we do it. As far as renting out points goes, we have rented ours out a few times when we found we just couldn't use them and it was very easy to do. We used the Dis DVC rent/trade board and everything has gone smoothly so far. The only real drawback is that there is a certain amount of trust on both the buyer's & seller's part, but so far (knock on wood) we have not been burned.

hth!
