Never rented before and am wondering...am I dreaming to think I may be able to find points during Christmas time?
I think I understand most of what I've read about renting points...kinda risky but worth it if it works out.

Love to hear your experience on availability of renting points. Thanks
Jason

You need to start on this ASAP for Christmas 2008, as the 11-mo window is almost upon us, and it is a heavy DVC season.

However, please be sure and educate yourself on how a DVC reservation is very different from a regular hotel reservation, and the basics of “renting points”, as it is often referred to.

Mike,

My DW and I are thinking of making our first trip home to AKV next Christmas. We are hoping to stay in a studiio with SV. From your knowledge can we be fairly optomistic about getting what we hope for?

Would you recommend day by day booking?

Thanks,

John

Would you recommend day by day booking?

Studios always go right after the GV's, and December is a busy time. If you are booking the actual Christmas holiday, I would book day-by-day. For the first few weeks of December, it may not be absolutely necessary but it would provide peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice Mike.

As my DW and I are both teachers, we are tied to school holidays so we can't go anytime other than the Christmas holiday.

Guess we have to sit on the phone come January 25th.

If I can impose further, is it likely that studios will disappear in the first hour of MS opening? As teachers we can't just pick up the phone when we want. Being in the UK does give us a time advantage but we are still at work (and unable to make calls) until 1pm ET. Do you think we are doomed to disappointment?

I don't know, as I have never tried to book the Christmas holiday. I try to vacation when the crowds are more reasonable, such as the first two weeks of December. Maybe someone who has had more experience booking Christmas will chime in.

Thanks Mike,

and sorry for taking this slightly off topic.

Have a great 2008.

I have booked for Christmas week several times at the 11 month day by day because I wanted a GV and it worked well. I have also booked Christmas week for a studio or 2 BR at 9 or 10 monhts out. If I were you I would call starting on the first ckeck out day of your proposed stay and if you don't get the studio right then waitlist for it. Keep calling each day. Book what you can get and waitlist for the rest and you should be okay. I don't think you will have a problem as long as you do it right at the 11 month point and even if you have to waitlist for some of the time I think it will come through for you. I had waitlists for Chirstmas come through as late as the week before we were to arrive - I did have backup reservations for those times however just in case.
