Renting DVC points

What are the chances, for a trip March 25-29, I could rent DVC points? What are the average prices per night? Just wondering if the price would compare to paying disney to stay at a value resort.

I really don't know anything about renting points, so I apologize if it comes off that way (because it's true LOL). Just wondering if there's a way to rent points for a moderate resort for around or less than 150 per night.

Only a DVC member can check to see if there is availability for that time...I'm not a member. Inventory is probably limited, but you can check with someone renting points here, or contact David's Vacation Rentals. One thing is that less than $150 a night is probably unlikely, unless someone has points that are expiring. Also, the moderate resorts aren't DVC resorts.

Oh all this is helpful info! Thank you!!!

For those dates, a studio at Saratoga Springs is 60 points (standard location) and a studio at Old Key West is 61 points (all for the entire stay). Assuming that you'd pay $13 per point, that's $780 for the trip (Saratoga) and $260 per night. I used those dvc resorts because they seem to have the most availability. I'm not an owner yet, but I've rented points before and I would do it again and again. ETA: I rented off of the rent/trade boards here directly with an owner

Availability changes by the hour, but in general, for anything in that timeframe, assume your best shot to be at Saratoga or Old Key West. If you use a calculator on David's or another site, don't delude yourself looking at the point cost for an Animal Kingdom Value Villa, Boardwalk Standard or BLT Standard. They're long gone.

For your dates, a Saratoga studio (sleeps 4) would be 60 points. OKW would be 61. It would be a matter of availability and cost. Brokers will charge $14pp.

However, those rooms have been being booked since last April. Don't get your hopes too high.

Renting points at the less expensive resorts ends up being about the price of a moderate. All the DVC resorts are deluxe. No moderate resorts offer DVC. You can see pricing on David's Vacation Rentals website, but you can't get availability info until you leave a deposit.

I think David's may have gone up to $15 per point within the seven month window. There was discussion on another board of DVC owners about this.

Some of the other brokers are still charging less, and inside of 7 months, a point is a point.

Both David's and DVC Rental Store are at $15/point for ALL rentals within 7 months. Prices vary for reservations in the 11-7 month range.

I just rented successfully from a DVC rental agency for the first time and got the Boulder Ridge villas at Christmas for 6 days. We used the DVC Rental Store, and It was a painless process. What is nice is that they check availability for your desired choices without a deposit required. Once they determine that a DVC property and room type is available, then you have to put down $100 so they can go to work matching your dates and desired number of points with a DVC member. Took about two weeks of waiting, but we got our first choice at Boulder Ridge, and it was simple to sync the reservation with our My Disney Experience account. 50% less than the cost of the rack rate compared for a standard WL room, too!

They have a page of last minute deals where DVC members have points they are trying to unload at a discount, some of which have to be used by April 1st, which would fit your schedule.

When renting points from a broker (I don't use either of the ones mentioned above) I plan on $14/point which during the times I go, works out to ABOUT $200-220/night for a studio.

AKL studios usually come to about the same price as a value when you rent points, maybe less if you rent from the owner. We always rent through Dave's and I know we pay a premium for the service, but it feels safe to me using a trusted broker. We've rented with them for 4 or 5 years now.
I don't know about availability, but those dates on Dave's come to $810 at AKL, which is about $60 more than an average of $150 a night. I think it's a long shot, but doesn't hurt to put in a request or check the owner boards!

$810 for those dates would be for VALUE villas, which *rarely* happen for renters anyway, and certainly won't be available less than two months out. Pricing a DVC rental based on AKV Value, BWV Standard, etc is simply not setting a very realistic expectation for renters.

The price at which one can rent DVC villas is dependent on the time of the year. During low season, like September, one can rent a standard view at AKV from David's for $165 on weeknights, and $195 on weekends. That same room would be $300/night on weekdays and $345 on weekends during Christmas/New Year or spring break.

I am a DVC owner and occasionally rent out my un-used points on the rent/trade board. I also have a regular renter, who goes frequently enough that I often do not even post my extra points for rent. Currently I only charge $12/pt, but will probably go up in the future. I use a contract to protect myself and the renter. Finding an owner with extra points and resort availability takes a little time, but is worth it compared to Dave's or other rental agency prices or directly renting from Disney. As has already been mentioned the Saratoga, Old Key and Animal Kingdom resorts are the easiest to find availability. Good luck.

It's good you use a contract because DVC requires that owners use a contract when they rent out points. It's in the public offering statement (POS).
