Renting DVC Points - 11 Months Out, 7 Months Out?

I'm confused about the whole 11 months/7 months out when renting points. If someone could clarify it for me, I would appreciate it!

I am trying to rent points for BWV boardwalk preferred view (studio) for the week before Christmas. Is the reason I'm not having much luck is that it is too early? I got a couple responses but they said their home is somewhere else, like SSR, OKW, etc and they can't book until May. Do I have to rent from someone whose home is BWV to book this early?

You would have to rent from someone who owns points at BWV. People who own at another DVC resort can't make reservations for you until the 7 month window.

Thank you, Supersuperwendy! I upgraded my post to say I'd take a 1-bedroom if it could be booked instead of a studio if that would increase my chances. Hopefully someone can help (I did get a response today from someone who said they could rent at any WDW resort and offered to call for BWV but they said I couldn't get a boardwalk view at this point).

You should have booked it a month ago from a BWV owner. When you say preferred view, do you mean preferred Boardwalk view? If so you may be too late. :sad2:

You may have to wait and hope someone cancels thier trip or wait until the 7 month mark now.

Keep posting yuor request on the rent/trade board. Someone eventually will answer, just be patient.

You have to find a BWV owner to book this early, and I'd suggest finding one, they may be sold out for the week before Christmas before the seven month window opens.

Keep in mind how the rent trade board works. Either you post a "reservation wanted" thread and compete for the attention of owners with everyone else with a reservation wanted thread. Or you respond to a points available thread, and compete with everyone else responding - many of whom you don't see in the thread because they are PMing the owner. The owner may get a dozen or more people interested in renting those points.

If you want this to work, make yourself appealing to the owner - offer more than $12 a point and someone will very likely take you up on it. Don't offer $10 - and don't respond to points for rent posts trying to negotiate a lower price than what is posted. The people you see renting for less than $10 are offering distressed points - the points you are looking for are premium points - you need to work with the owner at a smaller resort well into the seven month window and want a popular time of year.

My guess is that the week before Christmas has been booked awhile now. You might be best off posting your needs and hoping someone has that week booked and needs to cancel or now rent it. I'd say you are a bit late for your request. At BWV, studio or 1 bedroom requests wont make as much difference as they do at some of the other resorts. If you are insisting on BWV, you might have to waitlist.

Wow - I shouldn't have waited until after I came back on February 3rd to post my "reservation wanted" thread on the rent/trade board.

Thank you everyone for your help! I did post a "reservation wanted" thread on the rent/trade board but guess I should have done it before I left for my trip 01/31/08. I have been replying to threads for those offering points but they have all been for other resorts and have been told I have to wait for the 7-month window. But wouldn't all the boardwalk views be taken by then if they haven't already?

I will keep my thread up requesting a reservation and hopefully someone can help (and if nothing else, put me on the waitlist.)

If you wanted a boardwalk view for that time of year, you should have started arranging something with an owner who was willing to call day by day the moment the window opened - you should have started looking for an owner in November or December. And even then, I wouldn't have been surprised if you would have found no one willing to pick up the phone and hang on it every morning to make day by day reservations, unless you were willing to compensate them well. You've already been told the Boardwalk View rooms are taken - I wouldn't have much hope that some would suddenly appear at the seven month window. There are Boardwalk owners now already on waitlists for that time so if someone cancelled, its going to open up non-BW preferred views, not BW views.

Day by day reservations around Christmas are a pain in the back end for owners to make.

You might want to change your request to include any view. The most important part is to be at BWV, regardless of view. I've stayed in many different sections through the years and have been equally happy in them all.

Best wishes.

I was able to book a Boardwalk view 1-bedroom for Dec.21-26 by calling EVERY day at 9 am. I had to actually call Member Services from my room at the Boardwalk the first 2 days, had to dial the number repeatedly to get through, then was on hold for 20 minutes the first day. I was almost an hour late getting to Animal Kingdom on Jan.22. I was booking it for a fellow DIS member, and charged $11 a point. I kept the DIS member updated with my progress every couple of days, and was relieved to have finally completed the reservation. I have transferred points to another member one other time, and rented out a confirmed 3-night reservation at the Boardwalk last month, both with success, and both for the same price as I booked the Christmas reservation. In the future, I may not be willing to invest this kind of time in a reservation for someone else, especially considering that it has been a month and we have not completed the transaction. I second the advice someone else offered: post often to the rent/trade board, and be willing to pay more than $10 a point. Good luck!

I doubt you will find a member willing to put you on the waitlist for one of the busiest times of the year for DVC unless you offered a 25-50% nonrefundable deposit that was theirs to keep whether the waitlist ever came through or not. Their points could be tied up for the next 3-9 months and the wait list may never come through. There is no reason for a member to have their points tied up for months with no guarantee of compensation when they can rent the points to someone else looking for a reservation at a less popular time which can be booked immediately.
