Renting Carpet Cleaners

Does anyone have any experience w/ renting carpet cleaning machines from Home Depot etc. ? I usually have our carpets professionally cleaned but since it is still not great weather, and I need to clean them, I thought about trying this instead. What do you think of them, do they do a good job, what types of solution do you use? I mostly want to get the dog and "kid" smell out of the carpet and I have a couple of little stains.

Thanks!

Bissell (Linens 'n things or wal-mart) sells a great carpet cleaner. It works very easily and is priced probably about $150 USD, here in canada it's over $230.

I love having clean carpets especially with toddlers etc, so I use ours fairly often.

I have rented and the cost with cleaning product is usually about $60 Cdn, which was not worth it when I could buy a machine that has lasted for 4 years now with normal use of course.

And then you are not on time constraint to return the machine, hassle to pick it up etc.

Anyhow, check at bissell.com for info about their products, I highly recommend the purchase especially if you have several carpets through your home.

Definitely check out buying one...I got one for like $200ish and it does a GREAT job and then you have it when those spills happen...and with kids lord knows they happen often. I spend last Saturday cleaning the livingroom and hallway and I swear within 20 hours my DD had spilled Poweraid...I certainly was happy to have the cleaner to get that taken care of.

What kind do you have? Our cat likes to forget how to use her litter box and go on the carpet in the hallway right in front of her litter box instead... grrrrrr... we need something powerful enough for cat urine.

We almost rented one from Home Depot a couple of Saturday's ago but decided it would be around $30 (at least) to have it for only 4 hours, and we could probably have it done professionally for not much more given the size of our condo (and only needing the living room and hallway cleaned...). But purchasing one that we could keep around and use anytime might be a better idea.

YUCK...I cannot remember which it is...I think that it is a Hoover...though I am sure a Bissel would be good too. It is worth the investment. I know we have friends and my dad who borrows it regularly to clean their carpet. Might want to check out about the cat pee...not sure about that...our puppy luckily rarely has an accident.

I bought a carpet cleaner at Sears around 4 years ago. It's a Hoover & I think it cost around $200. It's definitely worth the investment. :thumbsup2 We use it every few months.

I rented the Rug Doctor once. It worked fabulously! :thumbsup2 It only costed $20 for the rental + the cost of the bottles of shampoo. I'm planning to do it again, once the weather gets better.

I bought a Bissel at Kohl's once when I had a coupon for 40% off a shopping day.

It's so well worth it -- beats renting one. And it works well.
