Renting a Tuxedo - $?

I am trying to find the MOST economical way of renting (or buying a secondhand) tuxedo. DH has a formal dinner to attend for work, and he is SO not the tux type that he didn't wear one when we got married. Ugh...any ideas? Thanks!

Many tux rental places sell basic tuxedos (both new and previously-rented) at a price comparable to a suit.

JC Penney used to sell tuxedos, also Macy's.

Is a tuxedo required? He could probably also get away with a solid black suit, white shirt and black tie.

Consignment shop or Thrift shop? You might luck out and find one in his size or close to it that can be altered.

I just had to pick up a tux for my dad last Friday. They were on vacation and needed to come home, change, and go to a party!

It was 127.00 total with tax. Considering it comes with everything, including shoes, I didn't think that was so bad. (He had his own, but not everyone has shoes appropriate for a tux...I know my DH does not!)

I would try Goodwill and Craigslist. Also ask around to any friends that are a similar size that might have one to loan (obviously have it cleaned before you return it but that should be the only cost with that method!)

Tux rentals for my wedding are $139 plus tax. This does include suspenders, an extra shirt, shoes, socks, and pocket insert. Mine is free though cause its my wedding. Price can be reduced by declining the second shirt and suspenders.

I purchased a tux once for about $350, but that was a used tux and a deal my school's music department had with a local menswear shop.

My ds11's tux for a wedding next weekend is $80 - that is a discounted rate because he is the ring bearer and the other guys in the wedding got theirs from the same place and it is a child's size. I would imagine an adult would be much higher. I think I'd check around about buying a gently used one that he could have for future engagements if he needed. (On the plus side dd8's flower girl dress was on a clearance rack for $20 - it is a mini brides dress and the perfect size.)

I had to buy a tuxedo for our son for college. He needed it for performances, music major. Anyway, I bought it from here http://www.buy4lesstuxedo.com/ and it was under $100 for pants, shirt, vest, jacket and bow tie. Very nice tux and the customer service was stellar too. They sold out of the one I ordered and upgraded it free of charge. His dress shoes cost almost as much as the tux! :confused3

I bought Dh's for around 100.00 it was cheaper than renting.

For my wedding, my dad, dad-in-law, and brothers wore their best dark suits and matching ties, and all looked smashing. DH and his best man rented tuxes (DH didn't own a suit!). Could your husband wear a dark suit and an awesome tie? I prefer the look of a suit to a traditional tux, myself. The tux DH rented for our wedding looked much more like a suit than a tux. :)
