Renting a Tux on European Departures... anyone tried it?

Trying to decide if it's worth it to try and rent a tux for DH on the WBTA this fall. I'm primarily concerned about the sizing... the rental company assures me that they have sizes that will fit DH (He's 6'8"), but I am skeptical.

Has anyone rented a tux on a Barcelona departure? Did they have to do any resizing for you?

It's the same company, everywhere, and the tux is very flexible and accommodating. I found it a good fit, but if there was any issue thry gave supplies in the ship.

Note in Europe far fewer people do dress up, there are still a reasonable number but more business suits or jackets and not tux, and many smart casual.

good reason to be skeptical...DH is 6'7", so i understand the problem..
it mainly depends on whether your husband has super long arms (as mine does with his 39 inch sleeves) - no chance will anything fit....
legs sometimes fit, as more and more men have 36 inch inseams, but those 39 inch orangutan arms of his are a no go...
no shirt or suit measures up...

but there really isn't any need for a tux, unless you're really really really into dress up

Yeah, I'm hesitant. He's a 38 sleeve, 39 inseam. He really wants to wear a tux on Formal night, and I don't think he'll get enough use to buy one, but I think that might be our only option for him not to end up just throwing away the money on renting. :confused3

yikes!! 39 inch inseam!!! impossible...no way will they have that length...

and we didn't even mention shoes....i'm sure your husband wears banana boat shoes too..

DH doesn't have formal dress shoes....not even sure they're made in his size, but in any case it's a ridiculous expense for just a cruise...

Having been in many DCL cruises ( Platinum) many in Europe, some in the Med, to reconfirm a significant fewer number of cruisers dress up in Europe on DCL, than on cruises departing from the USA. I think flight weight limits, and the effect on clothes being creased in transit, and as its DCL the majority if cruisers from the USA all have an effect.

In addition the Med in particular is very hot, and after a long day in the hot sun with sunburn you do not want to dress up. Light business suits are often used by men.

On our upcoming 12 night European cruise there is just one formal night, one semi formal. To get best use, a suit , can double up at Palo for dinner.

On the cruise formalwear site they do not have available business suits for European cruises only tux. Yes some dress up, but it's a lot fewer.

Get a travel suit, that will not just be sufficient, but actually the standard for most.

a suit is fine...
dress slacks and a shirt are fine..
DH has always worn khaki trousers and a polo shirt to all dinners on every cruise we've been on - whether formal or not....

He actually has shoes from our Wedding, so that's the one place we're ok, ha ha! But yes, I figured that we'd be out of luck size wise, I was just hoping. I guess I get to start shopping for a tuxedo.

He knows he doesn't have to dress up, we just want to. Part of what we enjoy about cruising is the more formal feel. I'm one of the ones that was upset when they relaxed the dress code for the MDR's. A large group of us on the Transatlantic are actually planning our own additional formal and semi formal nights because we enjoy dressing up.

well if you cruise a lot, and you enjoy dressing up, then a tux is a good investment... :)

i've been cruising DCL since 2001...there was never a strict dress code like there is on some other cruise lines...at least not since we've been on board...
on the strict cruise lines, they will actually throw you out of the dining room...in fact, you can't even be out and about after a certain hour unless you're dressed up..
safe to say, i'll never go on any of those!!! (well, never again, i have been on them in the distant past...painful...)...

Yeah, we cruise every other year, so he'd get a decent amount of use out of it. If Disney had a better variety of ports it might be more often, but there's just too much else to see in the world! :groom:
