Hi everyone --

We are looking to rent a condo in the San Diego area for a week in early September (starting the week after Labor Day). It seems like there are a million options on the web, but I was hoping someone might have a recommendation for a specific company.

We are hoping to be in Mission Beach, need at least 3 bedrooms, need parking for one car and would like to be walking distance from the beach.

Any suggestions?

Just about anything in Mission Beach will be within "walking distance of the beach". Most placed will list their distance by how many houses or how many feet from the ocean or bay.

We found ours through VRBO. I was like you --wanted Mission Beach or Mission Bay, there were a million choices. I narrowed it first by 3 bedrooms (and I wanted at least 2 twin beds so that narrowed it more), then if it had air conditioning, also a parking space (some have a garage or a dedicated space in a lot).

I ended up sending requests for more info to about a dozen places that roughly fit my needs -- things like availability, street address (to Google location), condo size, amenities, housekeeping fee (sometimes built into rate, sometimes extra), etc.

We actually rented a 3-bedroom beachfront condo on Mission Bay through a company that rented out several units in one complex. Depending on what you're looking for (party atmosphere, calm, bay view vs. ocean view) you should be able to narrow your search even more.

I found some owners/managers very prompt with a lot of info and returning calls, some not so much. That also helped narrow it.

Good luck. I don't think you're really supposed to recommend specific companies (DIS rules), but if you're interested in Mission Bay, PM me.

I agree with the PP that everything should be within walking distance of the beach. We rented a house though VRBO. The house itself had a lot of quirks but worked out well for us (4 bedroom--everyone had their own bed).

My suggestion to you is to make sure the parking place you get will fit your size car. The house we rented used an alley to get to the garage. There was one spot in front of the garage and one tiny spot in the carport. Both were onsite (you need to ask about that also). All of the houses/condos are on itsy bitsy lots so parking is at a premium and it is difficult to find houses because of the alleys and walkways in front of the houses. Having said that, once you find the house, it is really nice to just follow the walkways to the bay or the beach.
