Renting a car while at WDW?

I'll be at POFQ for a week in July, and Mrs. GG wants to take the kids and go to the Kennedy Space Center for a day trip. Which rental car companies will pick us up at POFQ and takes us to the rental car center and return us, as well, later that night?

Any tips on getting the best deal for a single day renatl? Went online yesterday to "National" and they wanted about $78.00 for a standard sized vehicle. Thought I could do better than that.

Do the CM's at your resort offer much help in getting you rental car info or, maybe even shuttle info?

I don't know if "off-site" rental agencies will pick up and drop you off...anyone??

Since you're not renting until July, I'd check National daily as their rates constantly go up and down. Usually as the dates get closer, the rates do come down. I've seen 1-day rentals for as low as $40, maybe even lower when booked online.

You can go to the Alamo and rent a car from the Dolphin hotel. Just take the bus to the Dolphin.

There is also a National/Alamo location at the MK Car Care Center. They have a complimentary shuttle that will pick you up at your WDW resort and then deliver you to the Car Care Center. Also, check out a multi-day rental...hard to believe, but this could possibly be cheaper than a one-day. Case in point, one time I rented a car in Miami that was cheaper for two weeks than for it was for a week!

You could take the bus from POFQ to DTD....There is an Avis in DTD at the Hilton and a Budget at DTD in the DoubleTree...walking distance from DTD. We went to www.rentalcarmomma.com and booked with Budget from the DoubleTree...just under $200 for a 9 day rental of a SUV! (Thanks to the DISer who recommended that site )
