Renting a car while at WDW to go to Universal

I'm hoping for some good advice/ideas here...

I was thinking of taking my family to one of Universal's Halloween Horror Nights this year, in the middle of our Disney World vacation. We usually don't rent a car anymore, just use ME to get to and from the airport, and we really don't want/need a car - except I'm thinking driving would be the best way to get to the other park and back to our hotel at WDW.

The last time we rented a car while at WDW, a van came to pick DH up at Dixie Landings (yes, it was that LONG ago) and took him to the car rental place, I think by the Hess station, and he drove it back to the resort to pick us up.

Is there still a car rental service available on Disney property? Is it feasible to rent a car just for a day or two? Would taking a taxi be better? The Horror Nights go until midnight weeknights, and 2 a.m. on weekends - depending on which night we picked I'd hate to be standing around waiting for a taxi, so that doesn't seem like a good idea.

We have quite a few nights at WDW and have been to MNSSHP several times, so I thought it might be fun to do something different.

Any ideas on the best way to do this? Thanks!

Yes, there are still rental car companies at the Car Care Center behind Hess (it was probably Exxon the last time you were here) as well as at some of the hotels. Keep in mind that most rental companies rent a car for a 24 hour day so if you pick up the car at 3pm you don't have to return it until 3pm the next day but it's still just a 1-day rental. Having a car gives you flexibility to do other things too off-property while you have the car, should you want to.

There is no problem getting a taxi late at night at Universal should you decide to use a taxi instead. There are lots of them there.
