Renting a car for a month?

Has anyone ever rented a car for a long period of time? I think I've finally talked my parents into flying down to Ft. Lauderdale for the month of March instead of driving. (They can get direct flights for $330 total round trip!) I called Budget, and they want about $1,000 for a full size car.

There has got to be a cheaper way to go. Anyone have any ideas?

You could have them rent a car by the week. Take the car back and rent another. It doesn't make sense but it does make it cheaper. If you have the time you can save money this way.

Remember that insurance provided by credit cards does not apply to rentals over 15 days.

I got my in-laws a rental at the Ft. Meyers airport through Alamo. Used the Wal-Mart code from mousesavers. I can't remember, but I think I got it for around $800 for a few days over 30.

Thanks everyone. I did a web search and came up with some rental companies that have rates (for smaller cars) for around $600 a month. I printed some stuff out and gave it to my dad.
