Renting a car at Sanford airport

It looks like we will be flying Allegiant Air, which only flies to Sanford Airport. I checked car rental prices from there, and they are really high!! Any ideas for getting a better price? And how far is Sanford airport from the Disney World area?? Thanks!!

Can't help on price tips but Sanford is roughly an hour away from WDW.

Taking a taxi or using a car service is going to run you about $200 or so round trip. You'll probably be able to rent a car for less.

Consider getting a taxi to a rental car location outside the airport. It looks like Enterprise has 2 locations in Sanford, FL that are not the airport. Rentals are much cheaper at those locations.

We flew into Sanford last September and rented from Alamo. It's a smaller airport so it made it really easy to get around. We had a late flight so we didn't get to our resort until after 11pm, but it wasn't a bad drive at all. I think it took us around an hour. You can do mapquest and check estimated drive times with your resort.

To find a rental car, I just checked on the Sanford website to see all the rental car companies they have on site and started checking each of them with any codes I could find. Even the codes people post on this board for use at MCO seem to work a lot of the times. You can also check for codes on mousesavers. I hope this helps!

I should mention our Sunday to Sunday rental with Alamo was $120.60 tax included for a premium car. The key is to book one and just keep checking and repricing it, with all the companies, up until the day before you go! I don't remember for sure at what point in my planning I got that great rate. When I'm pricing a car I get almost obsessive with it checking for codes and trying them out frequently!
