Renting a car and parking at parks

Can anyone share their experience with renting a car and driving to the parks instead of using the buses? How far did you park away from the park and how long did it take to walk?

If you are staying on property, parking will be free. Now where you park and how long it will take to walk depends on when you get to the park. Rope drop, uou will be close to the front and should not take any more than 5-10 minutes except at Magic, where it will be 5-10 minutes to the TTC and then travel time on the ferry or monorail to the park. That's why most of us recommend the bus to MK. If you are early to DAK, you may have to wait at the toll booth until just before park opening. That has always been my experience but I have not driven to DAK in the last couple of years that early (as a guest)

We went mid-sept and drove to every park. We never had a problem and were fairly close, even after rope drop and midday. Anytime we were far out there was a tram. I would say 5 minutes walk at the most, but then again it was the off season. If you have younger kids, it helps to have a stroller. You will have to take some form of transportation to MK.

The one day we were at AK there was some type of suspicious package that shut down the entire bus system for over an hour at closing time. Lucky for us we were able to hop in our car and just leave while the chaos erupted.

We stayed at AKL and I just like being able to come and go as I please. I will say if I stayed at a monorail resort I might have used that more often.

We rented a car for both our September and December trips. We are walkers so we never worried about how far we were from the entrances. The only time we took the tram was on the rainy days.
