[/B]Hello everyone,

I am very interested in DVC membership and renting points from pesent members but I have a question. What protection does renter have after payment is made? I understand the ressie will be in renters name and renter will receive confirmation number but this info can be changed at any time by owner. Do owners use contracts? Any help regarding this uncomfortable issue will be appreciated.

Thanks John

Renting is a transaction that is fundamentally based on trust on both sides. Many owners do use a contract, but as a prospective renter you certainly have the right to insist upon a contract from the owner with whom you deal. Ultimately, there will be no way to get 100% assurance that nothing will go wrong, but I think most people are pretty honest. However, at some point you will need to just trust the member from whom you are renting. Make sure you get at least a copy of the confirmation with your name on it from the member (it cannot be sent to you directly). It is reasonable that until that is provided to you that the payment is place in some kind of escrow, or that you pay 50% upon making the reservation and the other 50% upon getting the confirmation. However, all of these terms are negotiable with the individual member. If this makes you very uncomfortable, you may be better off not renting than putting yourself through the torture of some uncertainty that cannot be eliminated from the process. Good luck.
