Renters - Do you have to shovel?

I don't feel the need to do anything for them. They charge us alot of money for rent, and they don't do crap in that house. Everything that breaks - We pay for it. Tub gets clogged - We pay the plumber. Heater breaks - We pay the repairman. We get termites - We pay for the exterminator. They don't do a thing.

Of course that it is family changes things...

I have a landlord like this and I just include photos and receipts and take it off the rent. I never gouge him but I don't cheap out either!

What do the grandparents say ( they are the owners right) You have to go this will only continue to cause problems with your family to get worse .I assume DW does not say a word and just gets it from both ends.

My family also live with Mom over her business (she lives under and common areas in )but when this took place (to help her financially as well) It was understood that at any time DW or I (as DW gets along with her better then I do ) have an issue thats not resolvable we go no if ands or buts.I do alot around the house because I want to not told to.

You have to put your foot down now it's only going to get worse.

I guess because family is involved you either shovel and smile or just move out. Living with relatives is a no win situation for everyone!

two questions:

1. What does your wife say? I think that's going to have a lot to do with your resolution.

2. if you fix something, why don't you take the amount out of your rent and provide all of the receipts, etc. that's what I did and if there is no lease, they can't say anything.

What are you talking about?? My mom doesnt own a house, or apartment building!!!

What? Someone else ACTUALLY has a mother as bitter and, lonely and miserable as mine??? The two of them should move in together....where exactly are you located??? :teeth:

How many bedrooms do they have? Maybe my mom could also live there, since she seems to fit the mold.

------When I rented an apartment in a 2 family house, part of the deal was that we would cut the grass and hedges, and shovel snow in the winter. It was a great deal, since the rent was so cheap, and that was why it was cheap. The problem was, the other tenant refused to do anything. I made sure the landlord knew who was doing the yardwork and snow removal. Their rent seemed to go up more often than mine :rolleyes1

Is this place paid for? Are they planning to leave the house to your wife in the event of their deaths? The whole situation seems odd to me.
