renters and landlords... what if you die?

I would suggest send them a very polite letter stating "X is not able to be contacted at this address. Please send all future correspondence to her at: {Name and address of Cemetary, maybe even plot number.}"

Judy and I had been disputng an ambulance service bill for charges that her insurance had disallowed and they were still trying to collect. The bill was in Judy's name. I sent a leter similar to the above to the ambulance company and never heard from them again.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'd think that if your Grandma's name is on the lease, she is the only person responsible (and who they could come after) for payment. If she didn't own anything and had no assets, there would be no purpose to file an estate.

The landlord sounds like a real jerk! I'd be half tempted to write a nice letter back telling him he's more than welcome to file a judgment with the County Clerk against your Grandma for the money owed on the remaining lease and best of luck to him collecting on it.

What ever happened to compassion? Sheesh!
