We recently had a trip to wdw (12/7-12/14).We rented a Maclaren stroller from Care Medical Equipment. It was at our resort when we arrived. It was in pretty good condition, but you could tell that it had been rented before, not a problem to us. It was slightly bigger than a regular umbrella stroller. Our dd is about 90lbs and it held her,but the stroller could have been made a bit stronger. In the beginning it was hard for the front wheels to pivot to get moving, but after a while it was fine. Easy to push!! The only thing DH found annoying was that when he had to fold it up he had to remove the foot rest and carry it seperately.Over all it was a great investment.Would rent from them again.

Side note* we got a GAC for dd to use stroller as a wheelchair.

We own this stroller and we agree that we wish the footrest didn't have to be dettached like that but I think that adds to the strollers stability and strength. We loved how it folds to nothing and the weight is amazing. It is perfect for travelling.

We got it covered as a wheelchair for DS through our insurance since he has epilepsy. If your DD has a disability then maybe you can get it covered as well. otherwise adaptivemall.com has it for $400 and depending on how many times your go away it may be a worthy purchase. Do you mind saying how much it was to rent?

Hi! Our 8yr old dd has Epilepsy too.We have state medicaid for her(thank goodness).I will have to talk to her pedi about the stroller. We do not travel a lot,but it would be great to have in case of a seizure while out or at school.Especially if she has had Diastat. Thanks for the info!
We paid $100 for 8 days.

That is exactly why we got it. He is 53 lbs and it is impossible to carry him after a seizure and he outgrew his stroller. This one is perfect.

Our DS has epilepsy too, and no one told me that he could get a wheelchair/stroller covered under insurance. He's 85 lbs. now and it scares me so much thinking about carrying him after a seizure (he is postictal -- completely out -- for about 30 minutes afterwards.) He just got on our state medicaid and we are now on a new health plan (Hoo ray!), so I am going to have to ask about this when we meet his new pediatrician next week.

We are going to WDW on Jan 20. How do I rent a Maclaren stroller? DS won't ride in it unless he's not aware... he also has Asperger Syndrome and has a stubborness about walking on his own. I'm wondering whether we can rent something at the park, if and when needed?

Any tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

There are hard plastic strollers for rent at the theme parks - but they can only be rented at the entrance area. They have single and double (larger) ones.

There are stickie posts at the top of this forum with info on renting equipment from an outside source in Orlando.

Chris can be out of it for 2 hours if the seizure hit him hard. I would defintely try and get it covered by insurance. If you have a neurologist evn the pediatriciancan help. My ins covers nothing and surprisingly this was easy to get approved.
The only neg from renting at the park is getting back to the resort since the Disney ones are left at the gate.

If he has a seizure in the parks, you can ask any Cast Member and they'll radio the nearest First Aid station to send a W/C round (if you're close to one, it might be quicker to go for yourself, as this sometimes takes a while). It will be an adult one though, so I don't know how easily he'll fit in it. If he benifits from lying down for a while after a seizure, they have beds in the First Aid rooms he could use too.

Hope it all goes well

Odd that I'm getting more valuable information from a Disney board than from the professionals that work with my son. Why didn't they tell me? <sigh>

I'm truly grateful to you all. Thanks!
