Why is this a rule??

No existing reservation may be offered for rent or trade until it is within six (6) months of the arrival date.

That rule discourages members from making a rental reservation for popular times "on spec". Those who do so have to find other ways (besides the DIS) to find a renter or hold onto the reservation until it's 6 months from arrival.

And it's a very good rule that came about because of abuse by some DIS members.
