Rental of points??

I posted this on another board, but I think I was supposed to ask the question....

We are fairly new to this, we have been DVC members for five years. We have used it only twice. We were planning a trip last year however, hubby had knee surgery so we postponed the trip for this year, but hubby was laid off and money is tight. Can someone explain to me in very simple terms how the rental/sell of points works?? Not sure how this even works.


Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi,

this is the 2nd year that I have rented points out and the first time I had another DVC member transfer points into my account. I have found it very easy to do. I have rented the points out quick and met some really nice DVC members. However, before you start, please go to the link below and make sure you understand how this works. There are other links on the rent/trade board about how to post that you need to read also.

but right now is not a good time to sell points. So see if you can rent yours so they at least will pay for themselves until you can go again.

How would I go about renting my points?? That sounds like it might be a little easier. I've never done this before. So I'm somewhat confused.

Any help that you can give me would be great

You will need to begin by reviewing the links referred to above by Kathy on the DVC Rent/Trade Board. When you are ready, you can also review the posting guidelines stuck on top there and that board is where you will post your rental request. We do not allow seeking rentals on the other boards, such as this one.

Ok.. maybe I'm missing something... I went on that link from Kathy... but it does not explain how it works... I am trying to find out information on how the rental works. Example....How does the rental work, Does someone pay me cash, Is there a credit posted etc.... Once I understand the basics then I can go onto the site and make a posting... But I'm confused on how this all works. I thought there might be a place to find info. My apologies again, I am new to this...

You decide what price you will accept for points, and then post your price and availability on the rent trade board here on the DIS (following the posting rules there, of course). You need to look at the sample rental contracts from others so you can educate yourself about what you will accept and how you will word your contract. Most owners who rent ask for partial payment at booking and a final payment in time to bank or re-rent the points should the rental fall through. Also, most consider payments non-refundable.

You actually will be renting a reservation, not renting "points". These are all private transactions between you and the person you are renting to. The DIS offers a board where you can post seeking customers to rent from you. We are not involved in the transactions, however. DVC nor Disney are not involved either.

You will be responsible for damage to the unit that may be incurred by anyone renting from you. You may also be responsible for any bad debts left by them with fraudelent credit cards for room charges. DVC can freeze your account if there are issues with the folks who rent from you.

If you do a search on this board you will find lots of posts with questions on renting, too.
