Rental Lead time Question

Let me know if this isn't in the correct place to post this. I have a question about how much, or how little, lead time is needed to do a points rental for DVC. We may go at the end of August this year and would prefer to stay in a DVC studio. While we have some preferences as to what DVC resort we would like to stay at in the end any of them would be fine. The situation is that we most likely won't know if our schedule will allow us to go at that time until June. The dates if we were to go would be August 25-31st.

From peoples experience is that too short of notice to get a DVC rental and we shouldn't even consider it in our planning or is 2-3 months enough time during a slow period like the end of August if we aren't picky.

Just as a FYI our preferences would be at the Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge or Beach Club but any of the DVC Resorts would be fine.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You never know until you try. Yes, it is pushing the envelope and there may be nothing available, but I have changed reservations in the past at 2 to 3 months out with no problems, butI also had problems changing from a one bedroom to a studio and had to keep the one bedroom at 5 months out for last December...so you just never know.

I presume you're aware that the three resorts you mentioned are probably the first ones to have their Studios booked early, so you probably shouldn't get too attached to them.

Your chances at SSR and OKW are pretty good as they are much larger resorts.

As for a rental, you will probably be asked to pay the entire amount up front as that's getting close to the 30 day cancellation date for a member's points.

Thanks for the info. We are pretty flexible on where we stay and may even consider a 1 bedroom. I don't have a problem paying the entire amount upfront (heck at 45 days I would have to pay in full for a Disney Vacation Package) though my preference would be to pay via paypal. The big thing for us is just having a bit more space.

Lots of members aren't taking Paypal anymore because of problems they have had. Also, if you are thinking about free dining during your August dates, there is no free dining with DVC rentals. You can purchase the dining plan, but it won't be free.

Too bad about paypal. I don't have a problem paying by check if I can get a reference or two. We did that last year renting points in another timeshare system and it worked out fine.

The potential for free dinning isn't much of a concern either. It would be nice but I renting a studio for 6 days and paying for the DDP would be a few hundred dollars more than staying at WL with free dinning. I would rather pay a bit more and have the space. Also if they do offer it again my guess is that the promo will be closed out before we decide on our dates.

It seems like we will just have to see what is available when we get this figured out. In general what is the response time on the Rental Board when a request is posted?

Could be anywhere from immediately to never. If you are willing to pay a bit more, you'll get a quicker response. If you are asking for an easy reservation (no studio for two nights, one bedroom for three nights, etc), it should be quickly.

And if you don't sound like you are trying to put one over on the member (my DD hasn't been to WDW and this will be her first trip - then they find you just got back last week...), a member will be more likely to respond.
