Rental cars - can you upgrade easily once you're there?

Thanks for the help below on the mid size car...... I think we either need a bigger car or less luggage! (Can we get by with less for a week?)

My question is can you easily upgrade to a bigger vehicle once we're there? We rented with award points through my husband's work....so we have a prepaid voucher. I called Alamo and they can't do anything with the reservation... anyone had experience upgrading with a voucher once you're there?

I doubt you will have a problem upgrading at Alamo, in fact, it is a high possibility that they will offer it to you. Of course, you will have to pay the difference, but, I bet you already knew that.

Ohmigosh -- try getting away from Alamo WITHOUT being offered an upgrade -- for a fee, of course! Unless the service rep is anxious to find a new job or the unlikely event that they have no cars left -- you should have no problem with the upgrade. Just ask for it when you get to the counter and you'll probably make the rep's day!

Every time and every company I've been offered an upgrade, not for free though.

Not sure what time of teh year you are going, but if it's peak they might not have any extra cars to rent. We were jsut there off-peak, and noticed a couple of the agencies at the airport had out the "No cars unless you have a reservation" sign.

LOL, that is funny!!!! Since we became Quick Silver members we have enjoyed free upgrades everytime we have used them, except once, when we used Priceline for the rental.
