I need to rent a car from 1/10-1/20 and have been checking rates with discount codes and they are still pretty high. Should I go ahead and reserve now because prices will only get higher closer to the date? Or can I wait a little while longer? I prefer to go through National as we are Emarald Aisle folks, but right now, I go for just about anything for a good rate! Anyone have any luck out there for this time period?

I suggest trying Priceline just for the heck of it. But you have to know the lowest possible rate you could get without it so you can bid below that. You won't be able to use Emerald Aisle, but you will most likely end up with an onsite rental place. I usually get Alamo or Avis. I did get Hertz once, so there is a slight possibility that you might get them, too, and have to take the shuttle bus. But the rate was worth it!
Someone also posted a European car rental place here (it can be used by Americans too). They dealt solely with Alamo, and you have to take the insurance, but even with full coverage they gave me a much better rate than anything I could find without ins. for some dates near Christmas. If you are interested, maybe someone has the link.
Good luck!

2 suggestions - my old favorite on this board OL5040 in the CD number of Dollar.com is always the best...... NO ID needed on pickup (like your confirmation says) - it's from Rocker Fruit Travel Agency in Kissimmee

New one I've read good things on - http://www.budget.com/partners/disney.html
$20 off a Budget rental - Budget needs a credit card to hold it but...at least it's an alternative

which company you trying to rent from...what codes you using...how much was you quoted for what size vehicle?

Did you try Alamo website...
Use....
Rate Code MC
Promo Code 675899
Coupon code D14B ($15 off base rate which shows after you select the vehicle you want)

This gets you a ....
Midsize $134
Full Size $144
MInivan $184

And then add the tax to these rates....

That's the best I've found anywhere...and I searched alot.
Hope this helps.

WEll Ken....... you win the prize! Thank you so much for doing that for me- I finally ended up reserving a compact from Dollar for a total of $256.00 for that time period, but I think I'm gonna vist Alamo now........ and get a better deal. THANK YOU!!!

Well- I went ot the Alamo site and the total was actually $287.00- even using those codes you suggested- so I guess I just keep my little car from Dollar! Thanks for looking for me anyway.

Using my method, I found a Midsize 2 or 4 door (not a compact) for a total of $188.90 plus taxes and fees. Is your $256 tax and fees included?

If you are interested in this rate....do this

-Go to www.rentalcodes.com
-on the top right, there is a drop down window that says home
-click the drop down and find Alamo
-a new page will open
-scroll down to find the only code/coupon that doesn't expire til 4/30/04
-click on any of those three codes
-Alamo website should come up
-click on reservations
-fill out the page and leave the codes the way they are.
(BY, 675899,d14B) and click continue
-The rate for a Midsize 4 door is $203.90
-select this (or whatever one you want) and click continue
-you will now see and itemized bill with an addition $15 off the $203 with tax and fees is $248.45

Now this rate was assuming no other drivers, you met the age, declined insurance etc....

Let me know if you can generate this rate following these steps.
