We're taking amtrak from Connecticut to Orlando and then we're planning on driving back in a rental car. Alamo and Dollar have the best rates for unlimited mileage. Here's my question - does anyone have any experience with either of these rental companies? Any horror stories or anything I need to know since I've never rented a car for such a long trip before. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

You may wind up with either a (large) drop off charge or a milege charge. Unlimited mileage is usually requires that the car stays in FL. The exception, some rental companies have specials on one way rental from FL at the end of the winter.

You really have to try different codes. A few years ago I rented a car in Phoenix and drove to Vegas. Avis didn't charge me a drop off charge but did exclude all of the discounts. Alamo would have given me discounted rates but wanted to add a large one way surcharge.

Yes I second the warning to watch the one way drop off fee. Also check to make sure that you can take the car out of the state. Some companies will not let you do this.
