If you do rent a car, can you park it next to your cabin (in front of it)? Or do you have to walk from the parking lot to your cabin. If so, is this a long walk?

Your rental car can be parked at your cabin. You are allowed one car per site, doesn't matter if it is a rental car or your own personal auto. The walk from the lot to the cabins is quite a distance, maybe 3/4 of a mile or so, depending on your loop.

So given that, if you have a rental car at your site, it makes travel anywhere outside of FT Wilderness a piece of cake. No walking to get to your rental car. I assume you can just drive in and out, not around the ft wilderness grounds.

Right. The cabin loops are in the Southern part of FW, near the Outpost, the entrance and exit to FW by vehicle.

You will be given a parking permit for both vehicles, but one will have to be left in the overflow lot bythe Outpost.
