I don't know if this is normal for Dollar. We picked up an Impala from the full-size lot of Dollar at MCO and did not notice that it did not have a keyless remote for locking and unlocking the doors. This was a little bit of a pain at the parks but I still like the price I had for the car. This is the first car that I have rented in a very long time that did not have a remote with it.:(

The keys were in the ignition when we picked up the car. If I had noticed that this car did not have the remote keys I would have checked the other cars. Impalas were the only cars in full-size when we picked it up; there were no other type of cars in the full-size lane. Maybe it was just our Impala.:confused3

Can't comment on Dollar, but with Avis we've had both keyless and key ignition. :car:

Maybe someone took it or it got lost.

I forget what keys are. My Hyundai Sonata has keyless doors & ignition. I just leave the it in my purse pocket, never need to take it out.

Guess I am just too old but really? You had to use a KEY???? How awful!!!!

What does age have to do with it?

The little bit of pain I mentioned in my post took place when we didn't remember exactly where we parked the car. We were in the general area where a remote probably would have made the horn honk and lights flash.:drive:

Cuz I am old enough to remember tying things to our antennas to find our cars in crowded parking lots! And cars having antennas!!!!

Yeah; I had forgotten about that trick. This one had a stubby antenna on the back of its roof which actually helped us pick it out a few times but pretty worthless compared to a ball or ribbon on a long antenna.

Ha, we had an Impala through Thrifty that had no keyless remote. It wasn't a huge deal but I would *never* remember to look at where we were parked when we were eagerly running to get a tram. Then on the way through the parking lot aimlessly wandering with tired kids I would remember the error of my ways :)

I've had rental cars both with and without the keyless entry. It is a pain when you've got stuff in your hands trying to get in the car without keyless entry. When I went to pick out my car from Alamo in May I asked the attendant which cars I should look at for keyless entry and she said NONE of them were but I did find a Chrystler 200 with keyless entry AND automatic headlights-so used to those at home too!

Posters on DIS will change their reservation if they cans save $5 (I think some posters would make a change to save a single dollar). Rental agencies are doing what it take to try to make a profit on rock bottom rates. It could have been worse. You could have gotten a car without power windows.

I have not had a rental car without the transponder for many years.

But, I still remember the first time I got a "new-fangled" car with the fancy electronic key from Hertz many years ago.

I tried my best to figure it out, but finally had to go get a lot attendant to give me the 411. He laughed and said he had to instruct people all the time

You know, I really would prefer a car w/o power windows. Many times I just want to roll down the windows -- or roll them up -- but don't want to start the car.

Sigh....I guess that is one of those things....would probably have to teach a kid how to roll up a window nowadays....as an aside, when my daughter left Oregon to attend college, she had to be taught how to pump her own gasoline (self-serve gas is illegal in Oregon).

I would have gladly paid $5 for a remote key with the benefit of flashing lights and honking horn.:lmao:

The typical DIS would book a stripped car to save a few dollars. They would then post and ask about the chances of getting a free upgrade. XXX Rent a car doesn't really have cars without power windows and key less entry.

How do you pay for parking? Do you open the door?

p.s. Were you trying to be "humorous" or insulting to others posters?

Have you seriously never seen windows that must be cranked down? Or are you kidding with us? So hard to tell!!!
