rental car to/from cruise?

How bad are the rental car companies in PC to deal with in terms of shuttles to/from port & lines at the counters? Should I pony up and just pay to keep a car in the garage the whole time to/from MCO to avoid it all?

We've only done a rental car once (port to MCO) It wasn't a problem. Shuttle was there when we got off the ship, and our car was ready when we got to the rental office.

It can be bad, if you're in the bulk of people picking up/dropping off, from what I understand. Or not.

What can be a major factor in PC is the port load for the days in question

some days PC sees ONE cruise ship and then the rental companies are typically 'no problem' 3500 folks arriving to get off the ship plus 3500 trying to get on ... but call the port load 3500

other days there can be 5 ships turning over and another doing a port call for a total of 6!!! On a day like this it is easy for the rental offices to get overrun. One such day in April this year saw the port load over 17,000
