Rental car question - unusual scenario

I'll soon be going to Aulani with my brother and SIL. I do have a rental car booked, but today we were talking about how it would be ideal if both my brother and I were able to drive it. We're willing to pay any extra expense, of course, if it's even allowed for a non-spouse to be the second driver.

Has anyone here ever rented a car where the second driver was not a spouse or child of the primary driver?

As far as I know yes. Back in 2000 at WDW, myself and older sister were the drives listed on the rental. It was no problem. So long as all drivers are listed and have licenses & proof of insurance (unless you get the rental coverage), I see no problem.

Best Idea call the rental company and Ask them this question.

Yes, it is possible , but if the other person is not a spouse, there is a charge.

It is done all the time. If you join Alamo's Insider Program (it's free) you get one extra driver at no charge, and it can be anyone who is properly licensed and over the minimum age.
Most other agencies allow an extra driver at approx. 10.00 per day (just an average, not set in concrete).

Other companies may have similar offers. Also, some membership groups offer an extra driver as part of their code benefit

Not unusual at all. Sometimes a code or frequent renter/club will waive the fee for a non-spouse additional driver. Check.

That is very true, but, I only know about Alamo's Insider program and don't really know anything about "code" benefits, so, rather than get jumped on, as I have in the past, I am just sticking to what I know. :)

OK, thanks for all the replies! Glad to know that it's easy to do this. Guess it's not at all unusual in general - just an unusual scenario for me. I've rented many cars, but I've always been the only driver in each case.

Thanks again. :)
