rental car or towncar?

For our trip in May we are planning one-night and two-days at Universal at the beginning of our trip. We will then transfer to Coronado Springs for the 2nd night.

Last year, we did not rent a car and instead opted for a towncar service which we were happy with. We also rented taxis twice to travel to other resorts to eat (about $10 one way). Since we will have the extra travel from Universal to Disney's Coronado, I am considering a rental this time. We also plan to eat at a couple other resorts this time as well.

Do you think we should rent a car or go with the towncar service + renting a couple of taxis to other resorts?

I would rent a car. If you are comfortable with driving in Orlando, it gives you much more flexibility to have the car. Since you are going from the airport to near Universal first, then going to Coronado Springs, and maybe going to other locations, it may be cost effective to rent the car.

Here is some more information about the EC rates from National if this helps:
Try the contract id# 5007125. If you are a BJ's member, they have a coupon for a discount of $20.00 on a weekly rental.

You can also try www.mousesavers.com for other rental codes, coupons and contract id's.

We very much enjoy renting.

We love the freedom it gives us. We can drive to the parks if we want, drive to DTD and other resorts. Run to the grocery store.

Also, we split our stay with Universal so it comes in handy for that as well.

All in all, we save money and have more choices on how to get places.

I would agree with renting a car if you want to be able to go easily from resort to resort. You are looking at about $120 for the roundtrip to/from airport and to WDW from Universal. Add in all the different resorts that you want to go do, I'm sure that you will equal the price of a rental. If you were not planning on going to the other resorts, then the towncar option may be cheaper. I have a feeling you may want the freedom of having a rental car at your disposal.

Sounds like we may need a rental car....I suspected that might be the case.

I will begin my search for the best rental!!

Thanks for all the wonderful input.
