We are staying at FW for 4 nights with our DD2 and our DS5. Other than going around Disney-Magic Kingdom etc. The only other place we really want to go is Universal. We also want to go to a grocery store after we fly in, so we can cook at the cabin. We leave on DCL after our FW stay, so we'd need to pick up a rental car at the airport and drop at Disney-not a problem, but we're trying to weigh the costs of renting vs. not renting. Is there a way to get to Universal if you don't have a car? And Food Shopping? We would be grateful for any input. Thanks. Can't Wait!!!!

I don't rent a car when I stay in the cabins. I've never been to Universal, so I can't answer that question, but I do have groceries delivered. I used WeGoShop.com and had a very good experience.

Limo service from airport to FW will typically allow a stop for food on the way and while you are at FW you can always get a cab, or so I have read many times.

Try posting on the transportation board.

Why not rent a car for the day instead of the entire stay? You can pick it up and drop it off at the Disney Car Care Center which is just a couple of miles from Fort Wilderness. Alamo/National offer free shuttle from the Outpost to DCCC too! Can't beat that. We usually leave our motorhome hooked up and rent a car just for the convenience of it and the freedom to come and go, but thats us.

If the past schedule holds, Alamo shuttle hits Fort Wilderness on the half hour, but if you call them {(407)824-3470} you can arrange for pick up if a van is available.

Lastly, consider Enterprise. They have a place in Kissimmee and they also pick you up and drop you off free. Not as convenient as Alamo, but an alternative. We have used them in NY and PA and have usually found they give good service. Not sure how it is in Florida, but I would imagine a national chain is same state to state.

You can also arrange a grocery run with the fd luggage van. You need to call the FD when you arrive and make an appointment and the only location they will go to is the Goodings in the Crossroads. Just another option.

Mears also offers a shuttle service to US, they will pick you up at the FD. You need to call and make a resv and the price is not to bad.

How about a "one way rental" from MCO to Cocoa Beach. You could pick up the car upon your arrival at MCO, use it during your FW stay, and then drive over to Cocoa Beach (easy drive) on DCL embarkation day. You then have the option of using DCL transfers after the cruise, or another "one day rental" from DCL to MCO. We have done this several times for our DCL cruises, and has worked very well for us.
