Rental car or Disney Bus?

We'll be staying at POR 4/22-29 and will have a rental car. Which is faster to get to the various parks, our car or the Disney bus?

I would say your car for everywhere but the MK. The bus for MK will get you closer to the front of the park than your car will. We love having our car for going to the parks.

Grab a recent copy of The Unofficial Guide to WDW and check out the time comparison charts.
It's pretty much ALWAYS advisable to use Disney transportation to the Magic Kingdom, otherwise you've got to go via the TTC (your car to parking lot; tram to TTC; ferry or monorail to MK).
Anyway, the comparison charts take into account getting from your car to the park entrance vs the time range involved in taking the bus.

We just returned from POFQ. My DH and I commented on how the bus was the way to go, just to avoid the hassle of driving. We barely had to wait for any of the buses and the ride to everyone of the parks seemed to take little time at all. We loved that they dropped you off at the front of the park. We did noticed that POR had three stops and by the last stop the bus was pretty filled. The only time a car may have been easier is trying to get to our ADR at the resorts. The buses do not take you from resort to resort. You have to go to a park first.

If you want to save $$$ & not pay for parking, take the bus. We think is more convinient to take the buses.

I didn't think we had to pay for parking if we were staying at a Disney resort. Is that not right?

We did not have to pay for parking when we stayed at a wdw resort. Just leave your Resort Parking slip on your front dashboard, we were just waved thru the gate.

I agree with the rest, the easiest way to get to the Mk is by bus. If you are going for diner at a different resort, or just visiting, or to boardwalk or dtd a car is the easiest way to get there.

Another here who recommends taking the bus to MK, but the car is fine for the other parks, especially if you're early birds like us and are one of the first to the parks in the AM! You're about as close to the front of the parks in the parking lot as you are if you use the bus.

We've always rented a car, but with ME, we're considering relying on WDW transit for the first time.

The bus takes you to the main entrance to MK. You don't have the stop at the TTC where you then have to take the monorail or boat. We usually will take the disney buses to the theme parks, but a car to DTD and the water parks. Disney transportation is really quite good.

It wouldnt be a vacation if I still had to drive a car around all week. BUS...everywhere, even when we actually drive down.

Driving in Disney is not like everyday driving. The last thing I wanted to do on my vacation is wait in lines for a bus especially at the end of a long day at the parks.

Used Disney transportation during Xmas, had no problems, never waited more then 10-15 minutes for bus going to parks or hotel. Was a bit crowded, but that was right after fireworks or closing. Noticed very long lines for the people who had to go to the parking lots.
