Rental Car for March

I tried those previously listed codes from Costco and got a mid-size rental (MCO from March 23 - 29) for $110.76 plus $52.30 fees. The coupon code was supposed to give me an additional $30.00 off but I got the dreaded message "coupon not applied" when it got to the discount/subtotal page.

Try putting exactly 7 days in - same time of pick up and drop off - and see if it gets better? :confused3

I am seeing some movement on rental rates for late March. My dates are March 25 through April 2, and I found what I think is an acceptable rate on a mid-size through Alamo of $216 total with taxes and fees (after signing up for the Alamo Insiders Program).

Just an FYI - Alamo coupons appear to be acceptable now for March!!
I tried the $30 and $40 and they both worked fine for Mid March. I wonder what the chances are they'll have an 8 passenger Tahoe mixed in with the 7's? :confused3

I am trying to rent for march 4-8 for a full size. I can not get any of the costco coupons to work. I just tried again now.

Your rental length isn't long enough :sad2:
I tried the $40 AD4027JDO ...I did get $253 with the coupon for March 4-10 though.

I am trying to rent for a full week and then turn the rental in a day early. Is this an objectional practice? It seems the best way to get a decent rate is to rent for the full week/7 days. :confused3

Yeah, you can't do that. They'll really nail you with a price increase if you return the car early.

Thanks for the heads up!! I just got the $40 coupon code (AD4027JDO) to work for late March - though it says it expires 2/16.... :goodvibes

That makes my midsize only $140.09 (taxes included) from 3/22/11 10 am thru 3/29 noon (actually cheaper to keep it a week + 2 hours than just a week - strange :confused3).

NOPE you can't do that. They will charge you more since you changed the terms of the agreement. The rate is provided on the information YOU give. If YOU change the information by returning the car early they can and will charge you more. You will not have a leg to stand on if you say you will dispute with the credit card because you have a contract with the car rental company and if you change it then they don't have to abide by the price they gave you.

No one will object to you returning the car early but you will object when they charge you more and you can't do anything about it! :scared1::scared1::eek::eek: Just keep checking using the correct dates and times using codes you qualify for. Rates will probably go down but don't book a week and return early....it is stupid and you will end up paying more. :confused3:confused3

I was able to use the $40 off coupon! That brought it down to $169.
Woo hoo!

:thumbsup2

Me too..even though I said I wouldn't....;)
:rotfl:

I am having a terrible time with my computer and/or internet today. UGH!

I tried the code you posted (AD4027JDO) the other day and it didn't show me any discount. However, I tried it again this morning and it gave me a very good rate! Thank you! I went from $163.06 on a seven day rental down to $113.98 on a 6 day rental...:thumbsup2 DH is VERY happy! :yay:

Are you in a position that you would have enough drivers to rent two mid-size cars for your trip? Would that code on 2 X mid-size work for all of you?

So glad it worked for you and your DH is happy!! ;)

My DH really has NO CLUE what a good car rate is. I told him ours is around $550 and he said "Oh!..is that good"?? :lmao:

Yes I've looked at doing the two cars however #1 when I add the price of two together it's more than our rental van price and #2 DH doesn't really want me driving ... he says I'd be a nervous wreck. I'll agree with him on that....I'm a much better co-pilot than at the controls myself

PS: I don't think it's just your internet..I've been having a heck of a time today..especially with DIS :confused3

For the above discount?

Alamo just released code AD4027JDO for use through 4/30 which gives a $40 discount on a weekly rental. The Insider email says $40 which is what I got when I updated my reservation. The Alamo website under Deals only shows the weekly discount as $30 under code AD8192SDD, so once again the free Insider membership is worth a few bucks.

Being a "penny pincher" is a game for me...it's a whoooole way of life for DH! He is the tightest guy I've ever met!!

We've been discussing driving in Orlando this past week. He hates to drive. We are in a small community and he hyperventilates if he has to travel to a "big" place for work. Last time we went to Orlando, we used shuttles and moved around by their schedules, which worked out fine. With that he has discovered a 'stress free' vacation. He says he never wants to drive in Orlando again! :rotfl: So, this trip, I will be driving. I am more comfortable with the traffic than he is but you really can't get around without a co-pilot, IMHO.

I'll keep looking and report back if I see anything interesting on a minivan rental.... :goodvibes
