Last night we got to Dallas Fort worth airport. Went to the rental car desk..
Found out dollar rent a car and their sister companies will not take my chime bank card or my chime credit card.. then we moved over to avis and they wanted a second I'd with a picture and I did not have that. .. by then i had been at the airport for two hours standing in lines i got a car at advantage but the rate was 100 a day because it was a counter rental

Why wouldn't they take your cc? It shouldn't matter what bank it is from as long as it is Visa or MC branded, which I am assuming it would be. Or did you not have a high enough credit limit for the transaction? A lot of the car companies like to put a nice big hold on your credit card for the duration of the rental.

We have had issues with adding a second driver to a rental car. At most places adding your spouse is free, but sometimes they want to charge something ridiculous like $10/day for the other driver... Irritating.

Many car rental companies won’t accept a debit card without a hefty deposit, and if your Chime card is a credit builder, they may view it the same as a debit card.

Another picture ID in addition to your driver’s license? That’s odd. Who even has a second picture ID except their Passport, which you would not have likely been carrying for domestic travel.

Debit cards/prepaid cards are always an issue with all major companies. Some will even require you authorize a credit check if you want to use a debit card and a prepaid card can only be used for final payment.

As for the authorized driver charge - be very careful if you’re going to add a driver who isn’t a spouse. Most insurance companies will not cover it if it was caused by an additional driver. Lots of times your insurance is going to say they don’t insure your friend and your friend’s insurance is going to say that the car was in your name so it’s your problem. It’s the only situation where I would personally get the rental coverage if I really wanted someone other than my spouse to drive.

Well that's a bad start to a trip, but at $100 a day, wouldn't Uber or Lyft work out better?

That's what I thought... then she said do you have a costco card with your picture? Lol who knew costco is a legit form of id..
Yes it was the chime credit builder card . My debit card has as much as they want to hold even if it was a high hold... I was expecting 2-500

Had you reserved the car ahead of time or was this a 'walk-up' rental? Perhaps the rules are different. Many major brands let you reserve online and you go right to your vehicle without ever having to go to any counter.

I don't know how it is with dollar, but with enterprise, if you are using your debit visa/mastercard, you need to also provide them with a proof of a utility in your name and a paystub.

Which stinks. Because I stay at home and the utilities are in my name. So we have to use a credit card to rent from enterprise. And they hold, like $400, on top of the rental fee, though my card was not charged until we returned it. Wasn't even a pending transaction.

CHIME would be the reason.
This video explains why many rental car companies won't take a Chime credit card.

For what it's worth -
When we were at the Enterprise counter last week they had a big sign up that said they took debit cards with proof of a return airline itinerary.

We didn't utilize it, so as with most things your milage may vary and you'll need to look up their exact regulations.

Also a data point - we were looking to rent from an independent enterprise, not one associated with an airline. I imagine that impacts their regulations as well.
