I tried to search for this one but got no where except 10 pages of threads that had no mention of rental cars in the title!

On our next trip to the fort we will be there for two weeks, we are thinking about renting a car for some of the time we are there. I haven't rented a car in... well A long time. I need to haul 7, 3 adults 4 kids (11-5) so, guess I need an suv or minivan. What is the average cost per day/week there, if anyone knows. Or can you tell me what rental car companies serve the Fort? I understand Disney has a car rental location as well, do they rent their own cars or is that where the rental companies are?

Next,

Since we will be towing our cart down, do we have to park the trailer in the overflow lot or can we keep it at the site instead of a car? If we get a rental I would much prefer to leave it in the over flow lot to get stolen rather than the trailer!!
The trailer is 5x10.

Thanks for your help!

Disboard member DaveInTN mentioned in a recent post that he had rented a car while at the Fort, and that there was a shuttle that took him from the Fort to the car rental location at the Car Care Center, which is about 2 miles from the Fort entrance. I am not sure of the details beyond that, so hopefully Dave will see this thread and chime in.

As for your golf cart trailer, I don't know that I have ever seen an official rule that says you can't keep it at your site, and I have seen plenty of folks who just wheel their trailers off to the side or back of their site for storage. There is space to do that around most sites.

For car rental info, you may want to visit the Transportation boards.

Don't forget to go to mousesavers.com for additional info and cost-saving codes on rentals.

I know that Alamo has an office at the transportation center. I went online to each of the major car rental agencies to check their prices. I had coupons for Alamo, so thats who we are renting from. We are renting a full size car for 5 days and the cost is 336.03. I also have a coupon for an upgrade when we get there. We are bringing our golf cart instead of our car since we will be at the fort for two weeks and don't really need a car very much. Hope this helps.

As TCD mentioned above, I rented a minivan from Alamo at the WDW Car Care Center last month. It was a Dodge Grand Caravan that seated 7, and my cost for 4 days with taxes and fees was $320. Not cheap, but I was traveling for work so I was reimbursed. It was also a prime spring break week, so the rates were likely at their peak. I would guess they have weekly rates similar to what I paid for 4 days. I did use a Costco discount code...if you Google Alamo discount codes you will likely find one you can use for anywhere from 10-20% off. There is another car rental company in that location as well; possibly Budget.

They do operate a free shuttle that will pick you up from the FW Outpost, and drop you back off when you return the car. For pick up, there is a number you call and they come within the hour. The shuttle was convenient, nice and timely; it arrived exactly when they told me it would.

If you plan on renting a car, make sure you request a tag for it when you check into the Fort. Not sure if it's necessary, but that way you can place it on your dash so all is proper. Also, when you go pick up the rental car make sure you bring your room key; you will need it to get back into the Fort with your car without going through security.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

As previously mentioned...check www.mousesavers.com for car rental discounts. They offer many different codes and discounts that are available to the general public.
